What is the recommended blood sugar level for fasting and pp, if a 62 year old person with diabetes since last 8 years.
Type 2 blood sugar: What is the recommended... - Diabetes India
Type 2 blood sugar
Welcome to the group, mmm27d. The target recommended range of blood glucose for T2D somewhat vary depending on health agency recommending them. Normally your doctor will set the blood glucose target after assessing your conditions. NICE recommends the following target blood glucose levels:
Before meal: Between 72 and 126 mg/dl ( 4 and 7 mmol/l).
2 hr after meal: Below 153 mg/dl ( under 8.5 mmol/l).
As I said the actual target will depend on individual's conditions e.g.type of medicine or insulin being taken, risk of hypo etc. For example, if one is on insulin and runs the risk of hypo then target will be set higher.

Ideal blood sugar with or without medications are fbs @100 and pp should never go above 140. Hba1c 5.6 upper limits. It's better if these levels are achieved without medications.
Suramo,
The numbers you are giving are good for ideal case which may not be achievable by everybody. In fact if we put these conditions, more than half the diabetic population all over the world will fail to comply. That is the reason why target levels have been devised. What I have given are the upper limit of blood sugar above which risks of complications may become high. This is what is being followed in Europe. In fact it is up to the Doctor to assess the individual's conditions and decide a suitable target level keeping in mind the upper limit.

Normal values we should try to achieve. There can't be different targets for different individuals. And doctors are not interested except medications. Also, I don't know of any criteria to decide target levels for individuals. The limits I’m saying is universally accepted and above that level complications increase. The levels are certainly achievable by diabetics with idm.
And sometimes medications like metformin may be needed as we can't clear denovo glucose produced by gng.
suramo,
you are perhaps not distinguishing between blood sugar levels when non-diabetic and RECOMMENDED TARGET LEVELS FOR T2D. I fully agree with you that people should try to achieve the non-diabetic numbers but it may not be practical for many people. The numbers I have mentioned are recommended by NICE not by me. ADA has even more relaxed recommendation. However, they do mention that the target blood sugar levels should be individualized after assessment by health care professional. I am sure you are aware about the recommended target BS levels by various health agencies throughout the world.

I have different views and different understanding. The blood sugar levels should be the same for everyone - Diabetic or nonDiabetic because the complications rate is high whenever blood sugar is higher than certain level which is at present fbs 100 or less and pp 140 and above. The ada and all the doctor bodies around the world don't approve lchf and keto diet. Also they recommend cutting down fats! High blood sugar levels are recommended by them because they are prescribing pancreatic secretagogues and insulin considering we type 2 diabetics are insulin deficient. They say we lose 90% of beta cells when we get Diabetes. This is not true and all such treatments are illogical and harmful. Since they are prescribing such medications and obviously they recommend higher blood sugar levels.
We have members who have controlled blood sugar very well.
Please open the link below and you will find WHO guidelines on the subject.
Fasting sugar 80-100
PP sugar 120-140
Anything above this viewed as diabetic
