can diabetics eat bananas?

Found out tonight I'm diabetic, and I'm so angry. I had suspected for a long time, but whenever I suggested the possibility to my GP whilst seeking treatment for related symptoms such as numbness and nerve pain in my feet, depression and anxiety, extreme lethargy, loss of libido etc, I was basically laughed at. I love to eat banana everyday, but now i'm not sure can i? Having spent the evening trawling the net for information, I have found out that the reason my life has been such a nightmare for the last three years is down to diabetes.

Is this true?

Hi and welcome to the group. I know you’re frustrated with the news that you have been given by your doctor. The doctor shouldn’t have laughed at you for you asking questions. That’s not professional. I would find a new doctor, personally.

As far as the diabetes and eating bananas, you can do it if you’re not on any blood pressure medication. I had been eating bananas years ago, but was told that I had to give it up since I was put on blood pressure medication.

Foremost, find a reputed a clinic that is a speciality diabetes clinic.Educate yourself about diabetes,it's management and the complications that may arise if diabetes is not controlled.Diabetes can be managed successfully if you adopt a comprehensive approach, namely, diet control, increased and adequate physical activity, leading a stress free and disciplined lifestyle and lastly, medicines prescribed by an experienced doctor running a diabetes clinic.Seems a tall order but it is doable and then, you have no choice. Please accept that as a fact of life.In all this endeavour, you are bound to get several doubts.Use the search function on this web page. You are bound to get several experience based suggestions.

Now,what you should not be doing.Do not be frustrated or angry with diabetes.Understand it and deal with it intelligently so as to conquer it.And do not be particular about small things eating bananas. There will be a lot more that you may have to give up and many things to adopt. So,start immediately, since it looks like you have already delayed.

Welcome to the group, Congnd. If you love banana so much, you can have it but do not make a meal out of it. Remember it has carbohydrate and we the diabetics cannot process carbohydrate efficiently like non-diabetics. As long as you are within your daily carbs allowance, you can eat anything you like. The video you attached is informative.

If you have just ran a long way no bother. That's what marathon runners eat to get carbs back into them. Slow release foods are better for Diabetics.
