Can we take fruits if sugar level is in border range?

I am a 72 year old male and I'm having sugar in the border range. My Dr. advised me to take one cetapin tablet everyday. Can I take fruits like grapes, bananas and mangoes. Please advise.

Composition of Cetapin tablet (brand name) is Metformin (generic name).

Metformin is used alone or with other medications, including insulin, to treat type 2 diabetes (condition in which the body does not use insulin normally and, therefore, cannot control the amount of sugar in the blood). Metformin is in a class of drugs called biguanides. Metformin helps to control the amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood. It decreases the amount of glucose you absorb from your food and the amount of glucose made by your liver. Metformin also increases your body's response to insulin, a natural substance that controls the amount of glucose in the blood.

You can take one fruit a day. Prefer unripe or semi-ripe fruit. Bananas, mangoes and pineapple have more sure and hence the same may be avoided. Low GI fruits (Gliycemic Index less than 55)

Avocados.

* Bananas.

* Berries.

* Cherries.

* Grapefruit.

* Grapes.

* Kiwi fruit.

Fruits like papaya, pear, apple, guava and orange are high in fibre and can be consumed.

Fruits can be taken by diabetics. Banana and Mango in moderation subject to calory intake not exceeding total prescribed. Half a banana or one small piece of banana is OK
