I have gone through that stage in the past and can understand the pain and anguish that you may be going through.

In order to relieve the pain and reduce the inflammation during the attack period, you have to take the medication prescribed by the Doctor e.g. Naproxen + Paracetamol + codeine. That will give you immediate relief. That is the only approach during that period rather than trying any experimental approach.

For long-term, in order to resolve the complications, there are two approaches:

1. Uric acid-reducing drugs which you may have to continue forever and after starting the drug you still run the risk of attacks for six months or so.

2. Making changes in the lifestyles and trying some natural remedies.

In my case, I kept the first approach as my last resort and followed the second option and I have been successful.

I do not know what is your lifestyle, weight ( BMI ), age, any other health issues etc.

Following are generally helpful- reducing the weight if you are overweight, reducing carbohydrate particularly simple carbohydrate in the food and doing exercise and consuming at least 2ltr of water every day.

This complication generally arises because of change in the pH value of the blood. A value of 7 is neutral and lower is acidic and higher is alkaline. Blood pH value is tightly regulated between 7.25 and 7.45 in a healthy body. In case of high acid, it becomes less than 7 giving rise to several issues. So what we need to do is restore the blood alkalinity. There are several natural remedies you can search on the internet if you wish.I did some research and followed a very simple remedy that worked very successfully for me.

Remedy: Taking lemon water first thing in the morning. Lemon is acidic but when it enters the body it has an alkalizing effect. You have to consume juice of one large size lemon every morning. You can use bottled lemon juice if available. I use 200ml bottled lemon juice which lasts for 5-6 days.

This is how I take: One large mug with warm water, add some grated ginger, lemon juice and ground black pepper for flavoring. You can make two or three cups to reduce the sourness.

Do not eat anything for at least 45 minutes.

Please remember this is not a pain-relieving remedy. You still have to take the medication given by Doctor during the attack period. I saw improvement in three months time. There was only one attack a month after starting this remedy and it was very very mild. Did not need to take medicine. For last two years, I did not have any attack. Lemon-ginger tea is my regular drink now. Of course, this is in combination with lifestyle changes.

I hope it works for you too.

WHAT I HAVE DESCRIBED IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND I AM NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR. YOU SHOULD DISCUSS THESE THINGS WITH YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS OR ANY OTHER HEALTH ISSUE WHICH MAY INTERFERE.

1. Take four cups of water in a pan and bring it to a boil.

2. Remove the pan from the heat source and add one tablespoon peeled and finely cut Ginger.Cover the pan and leave it for two to three minutes.

3. Pour the Ginger water into a cup and squeeze lemon juice into it to the concentration you would like. Add some ground black paper(1/8 of a teaspoon) for flavoring if you like. You are all set to enjoy the tea.

It is most effective when you consume lemon juice in the tea in the morning empty stomach but it can be taken any time of the day. Idea is to consume one large lemon juice ( two to three tablespoon, I guess) every day. It may be little difficult in the beginning because of its sourness. You may start with half-lemon juice in two/three cups of tea in the morning. And gradually over time increase the intake to full lemon juice if it is ok for you.

Continue taking for three months and hopefully, it will eliminate the onset of Gout.

There is no harm in taking this on a regular basis as it has got a host of other health benefits.

PRECAUTION:

1. NEVER BOIL THE LEMON JUICE.

2. NEVER ADD SALT/SUGAR/HONEY

3. STOP DRINKING BEER JUST IN CASE YOU TAKE. THAT IS A TRIGGER FOR GOUT.
