These are natural as age advances. With personal experience,I can suggest two measures. One is try to reduce weight moderately without damaging health.Because of less weight on the joints, there maybe relief.Second, consult a good physiotherapist. He will suggest some easy to do simple exercises to relax the muscles and get relief. Do not consume pain killers as they may damage the liver function in the long run.If the problem is still severe, better consult an orthopaedic doctor and follow his advice.

@Vijayram....I am diabetic for over 25 years, and I had all these problems on two

occasions...Moderate (and proper) exercise is very important... improper exercise can further damage....also putting worm water directly or

using worm water bag helps to a large extent.Avoid

Pain killers ....I had taken help of acupuncture too... found to relieve pain ....while applying any soothing ointment, don't apply pressures... apply gently ...

Ask your mother to undergo HbA1c test, if she has diabetes. Blood sugar above normal will complicate the disease of your mother further.

The muscles that were there at all these joints while we were young no longer exist.

The pain at these joints develops slowly in line with the rate of deterioration of the muscles in those areas. Aging is a process we all will have to undergo the same way we all have to face death one day.

Delaying this process is not impossible- a number of cases to prove this point.

In addition to all the valuable suggestions, Why she is not guided also to the process of reviving the muscles which supported these joints once?
