Pre-diabetic or not?: Hi, I am 24 year old... - Diabetes India
Pre-diabetic or not?
It is correct that if the parents suffer with diabetes, children may also get it.In other words, it is hereditory. At the same time,it is not that every child will turnout to be diabetic.Presently your numbers are not alarming.Better keep watch and get yourself tested in regular intervals.
Also look for symptoms of diabetes, like excessive thirst, frequent urination, itching, even small wounds not healing normally etc.Keep weight under control, control yous diet.avoid junk food, and keep regularly exercising. And do not worry about getting diabetes because worry and tension are major triggers for diabetes.Keep yourself well educated about diabetes.Knowledge is a very important tool to manage diabetes.
Thanks a lot
According to the criteria of WHO, you will not come under prediabetic condition.
The American College of Endocrinology (ACE) and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) have developed lifestyle intervention guidelines for preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes:
* Healthy meals (a diet low in saturated fat, sugars, and refined carbohydrates, as well as limited sodium and total calories)
* Physical exercise (45 minutes of exercise per day, five days a week)
* Reducing weight by as little as 5-10 percent may have a significant impact on overall health

After having done a lot of research, I would consider fasting sugar above 85 to be warning signs not to be ignored! 40% full blown diabetics have fasting blood sugar < 110 and 20% have < 100!!
The reason could be genetics and also your carbohydrate consumtion! If genetics are weak, carbohydrates become more poisonous to the body!
Do not worry much.Control your carb moderately. Exercise regularly.Maintain your constant weight. As the number says you are not diabetic. Thanks.
You shoudl also get your HbA1c and fasting insulin tested at the same time as blood sugar for a more accurate picture.
But i am not overweight an as mentioned i regularly exercise, what more can i do? Does smoking have serious effects on prediabetes?

You are 24 with strong family history of D in the first degree relative.
Stop smoking.
Get ppbs and hba1c done.
Take care. Reduce carb intake to the lchf concept. Nothing wrong in taking low carb even if you are nonD as you are potentially D. Don't panic but take care. Post your reports. Get liver scan done for nafld.
Gud luk.
