Hi All,

I am 25 years old. Yesterday, I got my blood sugar report which indicates that I have 102mg/dl when fasting and 169 after fasting (2hrs. after breakfast). My doctor has suggested to me that I take Diataal D. Kindly, let me know if I should take this medicine or I can control my sugar level without using it as I fear I will start using this medicine and I might be addicted to it.

One more question. Does my blood sugar level suggest that I have diabetes?

Lucky to know the symptoms early. Diataal is the multivitamin capsule so don't need to worry about it. Pay attention to your fitness to lower the numbers. Refrain from eating junk food, sweets,etc.

DIATAAL-D soft-gelatin capsule contains beta carotene 30 mg, nicotinamide 45 mg, pyridoxine hydrochloride 1.5 mg, cholecalciferol 1000 IU, folic acid 1000 mcg, cyanocobalamin 5 mcg, magnesium 100 mg, zinc 22.5 mg, manganese 2.5 mg.

Diataal D Capsule is used for Diabetic polyneuropathy, Adjuvant therapy for diabetes, High blood pressure, Nutritional deficiency, Age related macular degeneration, Epilepsy, Eye diseases, Asthma symptoms, Aids, Tingling or numbness and other conditions.

The capsule contains vitamins and minerals and used as a dietary supplements.

You may reduce carbohydrate in your diet and may add more fruits and vegetables. Exercise such as brisk walking daily for 30 minutes is essential.

Test your blood sugar after 3 months. Fasting blood sugar (FBS) should be less than 100 mg/dL and postprandial blood sugar (PPBS) must be less than 140 mg/dL.

Hi spaliwal007 ,

Has your doctor given you the information related to the medication when he/she prescribed it? Did it say anything about side effects/becoming addictive? Please contact your doctor and say that you have some concerns before you start taking the medication and let us know what you get told. Give them a call this week.

Sounds like a pre-diabetic. Quite young for type 2, but it has become common nowadays. Rt now, you surely don't need diabetic meds, you can easily control with diet and excercise. Any of your parents a diabetic? If so, chances become that much higher of becoming one, even at young age.

Can I have yogurt ,apple, egg and Kellogg's museli with no added sugar in my daily diet or anyone of this is not required.

So many things can directly contribute to elevated sugar levels. Proper diagnose is necessary before jumping to medications or self treatment. May be better consult a Endocrinologist to identify your situation clearly. Good luck! Whatever be the outcome, stay out of sugars! its always better for you.

U can easily control through diet and yoga . U can also go for natural remedies such as fenugreek neem vilwam etc in powder form as u r in the early stages which do not harm your body .

Get fasting bs and f insulin done with the same blood sample. Also get a1c done. Gtt is also advisable but you may skip that. Yes. Lchf and idm will help.

Thanks spaliwal007 . I am little concerned about your high blood sugar level at this young age. Your BMI of 25 is at higher end of normal range. As we Indians are more prone to diabetes, we should keep our BMI below 23 unless you are having muscular body and are doing strength training for body building. In my opinion, you should be working to lose weight (about 9 kg) in gradual manner. You should aim to lose about 1 kg/week. That will be quite helpful.

Low carb diet will help you lose weight and control blood sugar also. Try to learn about effects of diet and physical activity on blood sugar. Buy a Glucometer for self-monitoring of bs. This will be quite helpful in the beginning to identify which foods spike your bs so that you can reduce their quantity or eliminate them.

Finally remember the following:

Carbohydrates in any form raise our blood sugar maximum followed by protein and rise in blood sugar due to fat is least. Further, carbohydrate is not an essential building block for the survival of human body unlike protein and fat. However, carbohydrate do provide essential vitamins and minerals therefore we should keep them in our diet.

It, therefore, makes sense to follow a diet which is low in carbohydrate, moderate in protein and rest healthy fat.

If you need any help with your diet, please let us know. Do not be stressed at all. Everything will work out fine.

Thanks Praveen55 for for your advise. I have one question here. I have started to eat below :-

Egg

Peanut butter and brown bread

Milk

Oats

Apple

Green tea

Kindly let me know if I can continue ue or I should stop any of this.Apart from this I have started yoga and gym in order to reduce my weight.

Check sugar after 1hr of drinking milk if it is cow's. If there is a spike then stop taking it.

As such what you have listed come in the category of healthy food. However, when it comes to blood sugar response, you may be surprised sometime.First of all, quantity also matters and individual's response of bs may be different. That is where self-monitoring of bs will help you.

Personally for me, oat cereal and milk in the breakfast was giving high spike ( > 200). But there are others who are fine with oat. You have to experiment and find your tolerance to particular food. That is a good way to avoid confusion. Do not use branded sugary oat- that is for sure.

As far as I’m concerned the biggest difference between pre-diabetes and diabetes is that PRE-DIABETES IS REVERSABLE! This is you have a chance to live a normal life, but it means you have to correct your diet now. If you wait, like I did, until it’s officially DIABETES, you will never be able to metabolize carbs in a normal way. So, give your pancreas a break, now, by cutting out the highest carb foods in your diet, 80% of the time. That means no daily grains, pasta, rice, bread, sugars (all sugars, honey and agave included, and cut back on fruits. If you do this 80%, you can cheat occasionally, 20% of the time and not feel you’re missing out on everything. Eat all the animal proteins, nuts, seeds, and lots of veggies, especially green vegetables . Even cheese and full fat yogurts. But watch the fast carbs, (grain products & sugars). Small corrections now can prevent you damaging your body permanently. My endocrinologist told me that by the time a person is diagnosed with diabetes, they have destroyed 50% of the beta cells in the pancreas, through overuse by carbohydrate demand. Then its too late and nothing but lifelong control or insulin can correct that. You are not there yet, so congratulations on taking charge. Join the low carb facebook pages. That’s absolutely true. PRE-diabetes is the most dangerous misnomer ever perpetrated on the public. It is already impaired carbohydrate metabolism, and the false sense of security that word PRE brings delays small changes that could restore you to normalcy.
