As for your question about mango, has your doctor talked to you about the subject? Do you take medications that say that mango can cause issues with the medications if you eat them?

Mangoes are supposedly lower glycemic index.Main stream medical practice does not encourage mangoes, because they are rich in carbohydrates.I eat mangoes very moderately.

sorry, mangoes are high glycemic indexfruits, totally unacceptable for diabetics.

try unripe if irresistable or better still, buy, feel, enjoy the fragrance and donate it to your near and dear ones.

Even though they’re relatively high in sugar, mangoes aren’t a “forbidden fruit” for most diabetics.

You may consume ripe mango in small quantity and with caution.

My doc says, try to avoid mangoes ( in excess?!)

One fruit (any) per day is ok- none in the night.

I think fructose consumption after high carb meal is really bad even for non diabetic...

So avoid any fruits (including Mangos) after consumption of high carb meal…

As Indian..we cannot resist mangos….so you have to sacrifice something (carbs)in proportionate if you want to have mango…even then consume in moderation..

Why even eat a high carb meal ?? I'd much rather eat a low carb, high fat meal and then eat a mango.

so balancing carbs intake is the key...

Yes, undoubtedly, it is.

Though, there is some doubt as to whether consuming mangoes raises blood sugar levels greatly. Its best to test for oneself and take a call.

I did many times...and for me it does not... but for me tomato spikes :d

It doesn't raise my blood sugar levels either. Thank you.

Mango can be taken in moderate preferably before 1 PM and definitely before food r in lieu of morning snacks.

I am a diabetic on oral medication and I love mangoes. However I have stopped eating the ripe and over ripe ones and have developed a taste for those just about to ripen. But I never buy any. I am lucky to have a mango tree in my yard and the pre-ripe ones are delightful! They don't spike my BS. Can't say the same for other fruits though!

Like someone has said here I cannot resist mangoes and Jackfruit during season. My Hba1c reading spikes every year after fruit season.

As per my doctor, mangoes, chickoos and bananas will increase yr sugar level, and I hv also experienced. Pls keep away from these fruits, pls control yrself, which is very difficult.

U can hv papaya, kiwis, small elaichi bananas (these small bananas r less sweet), pineapple,

apples.

Mangoes having a gi of 51-56 carb content at 15 can be taken in moderation. 120 g mango gives gl of 8. But, while eating a mango, we have to consider the total gl of the meal we have taken.

Hi

I tried a whole Mango on a free (Satur)day for breakfast-nothing else.

Post 1:45 min my sugar level was 131. Every week -during peak mango season did that and the level was exactly the same.

Similar with just a double omelet in the morning.

Try for your selves and then decide.

Mango fruit with free sugar, I understand.

Double omelet, OK, two egg omelet.

Similar results, where is the compassion? is it carb or what else?

Asku16 profile image

both have lower glycemic indices respectively.

Effect was the same, from 22 years of struggling with diabetes.

Hope that clarifies.

Thank you for your response. I am learning.

My understanding is for eggs GI and GL are zero.

For mango, GI=50 and GL= 8.

I am afraid I did not look into this before, I checked it today.
