Have you talked with the doctor about the diet changes? Does he/she want your Mother-In-Law to count her carbs at each meal and snack? Is she type 1, 1.5 (LADA) or type 2? Is she using insulin? On any medications for diabetes and/or other conditions?

No doctor , have not advised.

This advise of "Ragi" does not work in medium to long term

What works is a low carb with added good fats like ghee butter etc with some moderate proteins

Is she a veg or non veg ..?

Reduce Roti to just 2 a day made of atta + besan. Add lots of ghee. Have lots of non starch above the ground vegetables.

Have cucumber salad.

Give 2 eggs for breakfast.

Moong sprouts and methi sprouts

Paneer. All non veg items .Cheese if she is willing to take

No sugar. Use stevia drops

Reduce milk as it has lactose or milk sugar

Use ample ghee and butter

Use Channa daal in place of all other daal

Ask her to make a juice of 8 leaves of hibiscus and drink it 2 hours prior to breakfast for 8 days then let her check her sugar

I am using it if you have any doubts or if you see any improvement let me know I will be happy if you keep interacting with me

Ragi may not be a medicine for a diabetic , but it helps in reducing weight ,which indirectly has a favourable effect on diabetic state . If Ragi is advised to be taken , one need not go to such an extreme level . One time in the total food intake of the day may be taken.

There are various types of millets like --finger millets , foxtail millets , little millets kodo millets etc . My neighbour eats only kodo millets and she has really come to half her size . She says that kodo can be cooked and can be taken just like white rice with all dishes. Her sugar levels have come to non diabetic state and she says she is not on calorie count . We have to believe that because the result is visible. She says we can literally make all dishes which we make with ordinary rice including biryanis and puliyodurais .

Firstly don't tell her what you use in making food. And make it more spicey. Mostly she will not complain.

But the food that you mentioned is not good for her. Still reduce carbs. There are many items which has low carb and can be cooked in a tasty manner.

Go to "tarala dalal " or any other site you like you will find lots of D friendly recipes.
