I have people asking me...ohh really, u have a diabetes?
Five things you should never say to a diabetic - Diabetes India
Five things you should never say to a diabetic
Have you tried explaining diabetes is something a person can't see (unless you are doing a blood test)?
I gave a lecture on Diabetes and the DEXCOM CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) system at my Senior Center, so my Seniors would get a better idea of what I do each day medically speaking.
There is no harm in accepting the truth that we are diabetic. We all are unique in some respects and without us there will something missing in this world and no one can full fill that.We need this world to live in it and also this world needs us to play our roles.
Yes it is embarrassing sometimes
Diabetes per-se is not a disease , it cannot be inherited also as lots of people who say / blame my parents gave me this, it is the lifestyle dysfunction. Most of the people do not live a disciplined and healthy regime take too much of load which they cannot handle leading to stress , their smile is always suppressed in the day to day life , I have my parents who are Diabetic, I had loads of pressure in my day to day life and 15 years back I got my health check up and understood that I have also inherited Diabetes, but I did not want to get on to this all things which on to medication and requested my Doctor to hold on for 3 months and got my liefstyle streamlined
I cut of my business ruckus no more deadlines no more targets because however hard I work i would not eat beyond my standard meals, I changed my diet plan to more healthy Raw Vegetables, Fruits , Sprouts this save me lots of cooking cost too.
Slept early to rise early and started with 3 KM Walk now I do 8 KM walk Jog, due to this habbit I cut of from many parties and my booze quota was getting lower.
At business front I cut of work load by distributing & trusting my staff more this resulted in better output and team work.
Till now I have not taken medicine my Sugar levels are normal till date and hope to continue.
People are so ignorant about diabetes that they start challenging the diabetic to eat sweet. I had once to snub one gentleman who was trying to challenge me. to eat sweet. I said no and told him not to challenge like this.
My challenge is :
Let's have a test in my blood sugar meter. Both of us
Then I will decide to go for the sweets
This is the best deterrent for a non diabetic
He or she will never challenge you again

"Diabetes per-se is not a disease , it cannot be inherited..." please review your verdict.
Good that your life style changes brought your sugar levels to normal but your basic defect with carbs remains there. Get basic investigations done and know your D status. Will help you a lot.
You are right, when you comment on something or somebody, at least you need to view things from other person's perspective. Showing sympathy and empathy are two different things. My wife is diabetic. I can understand.
