Aspartame is a highly harmful sweetener, and if you surf across, many bad events are exposed. Even some of my patients, developed impotence, gastritis, liver toxicity, with aspartame. Many developed peripheral neuropathy and one with optic neuropathy.

I do not know why the authorities are still allowing it > In USA , SUCRALOSE has replaced, which is a safe , and good natural sweetener, and I strongly recommend as on today's reports. Do not go away by sweets selling as sugar free. In the market sugar free sonpapdi is popular, who has never mentioned about the caloric values of their sweets. The food authorities are permitting this cheat. There are lots of fats, which attributes calories, which is again a danger for diabetic.; I gm of carbohydrate at least give 4 calories , but 1 gm of fat gives 9 calories. A gulab Jamoon fried in ghee or oil , is enough to close you, inspite they might have used syrups which are made out of artificial medium of corn flower and sweetener like aspartame. It is dangerous, and I am surprised that in Chennai, some of the shops have the display of certificates from renowned diabetelogists , as these sweets are safe for diabetics and are of low glycemic index !!!. A better sweet for diabetic would be rasgulla well squeezed out which has some sugar, but more of protein as casein. Beyond that the diabetic should not aspire for more sweet, unless prepared with sucralose.

Craving for sweets is a habit which can be avoided by practice. Once used to without sweet, we can get over this requirement of artificial sweetners

is coconut (raw or dry) safe for a diabetic?

fairly ok, but not in a large quantity It is not a poison for diabetic. It has enough protein also, and try to take kernels which are young, and not stone dry, with oil. Raw or dry makes no difference. Quantity is important, and we live for food. Do not starve nice foods, for the sake of Diabetes.

I have given my patients full dose of oils and ghee, who is very fond of some south Indian dishes, like chilli; powder oil, and ghee to the breakfast.

Instead of testing in the glucometer ( which has lots of fallacies in the test methods ), in routine caloric method, there is a delay in the response of hyperglycemia, as the fats has to be converted into calories slowly, than carbs. which has various degrees of absorption. for example, complex carbohydrates takes lot of time to rise the blood sugar, where is simple sugars, like rice etc, rise the blood sugar zoomingly.

Just because the post prandial sugar is not raised, that does not mean, fats are safe. More so, weight control is mandatory in diabetic. Fat by passes the weight control, and results in obesity. Still one cannot say that fats are beneficial ?

Sugarfree Gold by Zydus Wellness contains Lactose, Apartame and Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone. It is indicated above that Apartame is harmful. What about this combination. If taken one Sachet a day, how much is it affective. My sugar level is controlled with medicine and exercise.
