  • sanjaybajaj: I first reversed IGT range in 2005. In 2009 it was full blown (A1C 11.3%) but came in IGT range in about 4 weeks. Early this year (Jan 2014)it peaked to 11.6% and once again through diet and exercise regimen, it is now 6.0%. I am coming onto 62 and at all these three occasions I took no drugs, not even metformin. Twice I have put my diet/exercise regimen on this forum in the past few months and emailed it to perhaps 200 members you asked me for a printable copy. I have responded to your post because what you have said makes sense to me.

  • If you can get your eABG down by roughly 12 points, you should be in non diabetic range as far as A1C goes.

  • Not 6-12 months.

    It can be reversed in 6 days just by switching to LCHF diet.

  • 12 points? Wonder if conversion is: The relationship between A1C and eAG is described by the formula 28.7 X A1C – 46.7 = eAG?

  • As a rough thumb-rule ~30 points drop in eAG will correspond to 1.0 drop in A1C. Since you are off by 0.4 from 5.6 that makes it around 12 points drop needed. Thumb rule so that i don't have to fire-up calculator every time.

    That said getting back to calculator gets me following

    (1) A1C = 6 :: eAG = 125.5

    (2) A1C = 5.6 :: eAG = 114.02

    (1) - (2) = 11.48 ~ 12 so the thumb-rule worked fine.

    Faster still would be

    Required eAG drop = 28.7(required A1C drop) = 28.7*0.4 = 11.48 ~ 12

    I prefer the thumb-rule way and mentally crunch the numbers, instead. Agreed it will be approximate (~4.5% higher), but then even LABS with all the sophistication have margin of error :)

  • OK. I see it is [12 point] a situation specific answer.Thanks.

  • Well, as a thumb-rule, it's global:

    3 point reduction in eAG == 0.1 reduction in A1C.

  • Thanks. I perceive that the current value is 28 for every 1%. I enquired because I got confused with term eAG. Thanks once again Medfree.

  • Yes, but as i said ... thumb-rule means should be easy to mentally work out numbers. It's easier to deal with 3 than 2.8 while doing calculations mentally. Of course more precise would be 28.7 for every 1 of A1C

  • Thanks Medfree for reminding me about 28.7.
