Dear Guhan,I am also a diabetic with little knowledge about it but I have attitude of helping others as other help me.On the basis of whatever,I have learned from knowledgeable & experienced persons in this forum and outside,I suggest you the following tips:
i)First of all cut the carbohydrate intake.Because,if your carbohydrate intake is very high then no medicine will appropriately control your blood sugar levels. If possible take fatty food products, whole grains, nuts, green non-root vegetables and other non-starchy foods.
ii)Drink sufficient amount of water. It will remove toxin (harmful things) from your body and consequently,it will stabilize your blood sugar levels.
iii)Do some physical work or exercise preferably, six days in a week.It reduces blood sugar to a great extent.
iv)Ask your doctor to change the combination of medicines to suit you better and do not forget to take medicines daily on the time.
v)Try to be free from mental stress.Because, mental stress increases blood sugar levels.Remember, life is a struggle for most of us.But 'life is first" then only struggle can be done.
Be regular in this forum as there are some knowledgeable and experienced helping hands in this forum who will definitely, educate you about easy and effective ways of managing diabetes.
Lastly,I am wishing to you a good health!

My wife is diabetic. Normally, her sugar levels are around 120 fasting and around 200 post lunch. I have noticed that whenever she consumes vinegar in any form, her blood sugar level drops dramatically. So much so, that she verges on hypoglycemia and has to urgently be given some sugar-based drink (normally nimbu pani) for her sugar level to normalize.
I am not saying that this is a miracle cure for diabetes, every person has a different metabolism and possibly might not show a similar reaction; however, it is definitely worth trying consuming may be 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of preferably sugarcane vinegar ( or any other fruit-based vinegar rather than synthetic vinegar) and monitoring your blood sugar levels. If it works for you, nothing like it; if it does not, well it will not harm you. I would be the happiest if you succeed in controlling your sugar levels and reducing your medications. Please note to carefully monitor your sugar level and avoid getting hypoglycemic at any cost.
Thanks for the information
I started with diabetes 2+ years back. I was on medication for about 1.5 years. There after i went on total vegan diet and vigorous exercise. Now since last 9 months, my blood sugar is under control and I am off all medication. My HbA1C has been under 6 all these 9 months. With vegan diet, I don't worry about quantity and I can eat whenever I am hungry. I would advise you to reach the website SHARAN, if you wish to learn more.
Thank you for updating my knowledge!
There is no need to depend on soy. Soy is supposed to be a source of proteins. Whereas there are plenty of excellent sources of proteins like beans & legumes.
The basic idea is to minimize consumption of fats, as excess fats in the body interfere with insulin production and action. That is why it is essential to eliminate dairy products, non vegetarian foods, eggs and minimize cooking oils as they contain lot of fats.
Also it is better to do away with the concept of special foods; eat whatever is fresh and seasonal food. There is no need to restrict yourself to some exotic food; measured quantities or predetermined timing. Eat when you are hungry and stop before you feel your stomach is full.
Read about Dr Neal Barnard. His book is very simple to read and follow.
