The purpose ofthe forum is to help the victims of diabetes or for that matter any auto immune disorder . Diabetes is a life style disorder and with few chenges in diet , sleep , rest and stress reduction it would be fully under control .All diets and all medicines are not suitable to all . So why can't it be suggested to them to go for alternative medicine . If it works for them it is a happy news . Is it not ?Alternative medicine , whether Ayurveda , siddha , Homeopathy , Unani , accupunture , herbal pastes any thing if gives relief , what is wrong in going for that . When the problem is at peak no doubt it has to be attended by modern medicine only to avoid complications.
---- ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE .: The purpose... - Diabetes India
---- ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE .
This is a very interesting discussion topic. Not everything is going to work for everyone. Everyone is different from each other— like Diabetes.
It is only a reflection of one school of thought about alternative medicine Those who do not have faith in them need not take them and can just ignore the post . It is an info which could be useful to those who are vexed with other avenues and want to try new things that also under the supervision of a doctor .
That’s right. All types of medications and changes to diets should be discussed with the doctor before anything is done to be on the safe side.
Some people blame ayurveda because they are either stubborn, prejudiced or ignorant.
They show as they know everything but forget the basic fact that ayurveda and yoga is the lifestyle decided by the nature.
Allopathy is mostly needed in case of emergency but it has unlimited side effects on your mind as well as body.
Don't know much about the other therapies.
Sure! I decided not to take allopathic medicines and instead went for food and lifestyle changes. These days its very warm in India and my physical activity levels are remarkably affected. However my sugar levels continue to improve, just thanks to diet modification. Ayurveda has a way of treating almost all ailments just by correcting your "digestive fire". My fasting is 71-76 these days and at any time it doesn't go above 120-125. The statement that "food is medicine" holds more truth than it appears to!
Do you take any achieved medicine. If yes please detail out.
Yes I'm taking
1. Gymnema sylvestre tincture, before meals. I take only two major meals.
2. Milk thistle to bring down my fasting sugar level.
3. ACV. infrequently.
This is one of my favourite topics for discussion. Previously when I joined, I have discussed a lot about herbal remedies with proofs of it's safety and efficacy. Members can see my previous post on the same topic by going to my profile page. I am firm believer in Ayurvedic and herbal remedies and i do use them to control my blood sugars. I have even discontinued it to see if I stop taking these herbs, do my blood sugars go up? Yes....it did. So, I have decided to continue with my herbal medicines along with allopathic medicines.
I recommend diabetics to take minimum these herbs... Ashwagandha (as a stress reliever), Gymnema Sylvestre (400 mg per day at least with meals), Turmeric (for reducing inflammation which we all diabetics have the result of which we have insulin resistance, so turmeric will reduce inflammation and hence insulin resistance), Diabecon tablet ( a herbal medicine with about 33 herbs by Himalaya Herbals, twice a day, it is very effective in keeping blood sugars normal).
For me also it is a favourite topic as I had seen some beautiful cures , ok , controls in some cases .Some alternative medicines do not react with modern medicines . But some may interact , A dedicated research only can decide the effects of taking medicines of two systems simultaneously .
Gymnema Sylvestre, and Turmeric is proven and no need of any further research. Diabecon tablet from Himalaya herbals is done with clinical trials by the company which you can see on it's website. Age old effective herbs need not be proven unless few people may not get used to it due to any reason.
Age old herbs are effective and proved . But what about the result when they are taken simultaneously with modern medicine for long ---say about 12 years or more
I think we shouldn't go into that much details as nobody knows what happens after many years due to what. We cannot prove that because of taking turmeric, we have certain problems...no not at all....herbal medicines have least side-effects and are generally safe for everybody.
This argument holds good in the past cases when people were getting diagnosed with diabetes or heart problem after crossing 50s . Now even people at 20 are getting diabetes type 2 . They have a long life to lead and it is a pathos to face complications even before 30 . They are unwilling to take chances and a simple home remedy like turmeric does not convince them . At the same time they can't go on taking many of the modern medicines many of which have side effects . Recently we lost two of our close relatives at the age of 40 itself , one of them had even kidney transplantation .Both were under metformin and later insulin injections . Both had very small kids .It is a heart breaking tragedy .
I have used alternative medicine and it's fine for me - homeopathy from Bristol Homeopathic NHS hospital before it closed down helped me a great deal, herbal medicine using a bio-com system, nutritional therapy, kinesiology, crania-sacral therapy and natural healing, to name but a few.
We have to make up our own mind about what is right for us.
medications certainly don't work for everyone and that is why so many die from conventional treatment every year.
yes homeopathy has permanent cures for many ailments . But medical emergencies and crisis need immediate attention where modern medicine is the best.
