Please share any experience with Flax seeds for Diabetics. It is believed that it contains maximum Omega 3 fatty acids. What is correct dosage, amount and time of taking?

Thanks

Diabetics they say have problem converting ALA (omega 3 from flaxseed) effectively to EPA/DHA.

Less than 5% is converted to EPA and less than 0.5% to DHA.

Vegans and vegetarians are especially prone to be poor converters of ALA to DHA, in addition.

If there is a problem in conversion then, is there alternative medicine in form of ALA or DHA?

Fish oil capsules of you need DHA/EPA

Or Krill Oil

The active omega 3 are EPA and DHA. From which ever source ALA is taken it has to be converted into EPA and DHA. Flax seed is best source of plant omega 3. 20% of ALA is converted into EPA though conversion into DHA is very small. But it is also true that flax seed has many other health benefits.

And also remember, that most so called heart friendly oils are PUFA loaded and in such an environment, the conversion of ALA to EPA is drastically reduced by 40% - 50% as compared to those using Saturated Fats even in normal persons. Those who hate saturated fats load their diet with PUFA loaded oils.

Diabetics have still lower ability to convert and vegans and vegetarians have still lower capacity to convert. BTW, not saying it is a waste. But, if from viewpoint of EPA/DHA it has not much value, and that's why you have vegan sources of ALA with DHA (made from algae) and that's why i mentioned krill ...

So if you are taking ALA from DHA viewpoint, it's a waste, even flaxseed oil for DHA is a waste.

As ALA is a fat it is also utilised by the body. So it is not a waste.

I take about 75 grams daily. There are quite a few negatives. it may raise toxicity and lead to bloating etc. I take it making fresh powder everyday in the coffee grinder with about 800 ml water (started with one fifth the quantity in 600 ml liquid and raised it gradually)

I take one small tea spoonful of flax seed twice a day along with a red tea.Just by grinding the fresh seed with teeth.I also take 300mg ALA capsule after dinner around 9.00P.M. Mind you I am a follower of LCHF diet. Thanks.

ALA capsules -- are you taking generic ones or branded capsules? Please send me the name accordingly.

Thanks

I think the capsules are of Alpha Lipoic Acid not Alpha Linolenic Acid (omega 3).
