BMI is the result of weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters; some part of its range is given above by another member.

Another way of telling it & easy way to calculate it is:

Step 1 Divide the weight in kilograms by height in meters

Step 2 Divide the result again by height in meters; The result is BMI.

My weight is 60 kg, height is 172 cms; so my height in meters is 1.72.

Step 1 60/1.72=34.88

Step 2 34.88/1.72=20.28; this is my BMI.

OR square of height in meters =1.72 x 1.72 = 2.9584

So BMI = 60/2.9584=20.28
