What is the Diet Schdule for a Diabetes pataient
There is no specific diet schedule for diabetics.What is to be always kept in mind is that we have a short supply of insulin and most times,body is unable to use the available insulin because of insulin resistance.Insulin is required for metabolizing carbohydrates.So,the less carbohydrates you eat,the better will be your sugar management.Avoid sugar and sweets.Eat less of rice,wheat and other grains rich in carbohydrates,vegetables like potato,beet,sweet potato etc.Eat lesser quantities of food in each meal but have more meals.Eat more vegetables,greens,sprouts,mushrooms etc which do not demand insulin but rich in vitamins,fiber and minerals.You should eat only that much daily in proportion to your physical activity.Within these parameters.you can plan your diet as per your taste,and preferences.You can also eat white meat like chicken and fish.

The diet plan of an individual is based on height, weight, age, sex, physical activity and the nature of diabetes. One should consider the following points while planning a diabetic diet.
* Determining energy requirements;
* Determining the type of carbohydrates , fibre and food preparations.
* Presence of any complications such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels.
In the case of Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, the energy intake is based on needs for normal growth and development, physical activity and maintenance of desirable body weight.
In the case of Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, the majority of patients are overweight or obese, Therefore calorie restriction is required to achieve a desired weight.
