Comparison of readings of Gulucometer with Lab.

I am a pre diabetic. Recently I got my sugar levels tested from Dr. Lal PathLabs. Fasting is 103, PP is 92 & HbA1c is 6.40%.

At the same time I tested blood from my finger using Bayer's Contour Gulucometer - The readings are Fasting 85 & PP 83.

Can anyone explain why there is difference in both the results.

Do we need to add certain %age to the gulucometer readings to get results of blood taken from veins.

I also need the same answer. Here in Gulf Countries (KSA) most people depends upon this or other glucometer. The answer will be most useful. Also I would like to know testing between different Labs results also is varying most of the time. What is standard measure to find out real BS count.

While getting Glucose Level Checked from laboratory, please request technician to provide you with a drop of blood taken from your veins for testing your Glucometer, then you can compare the readings.

Accuracy of glucose meters is a common topic of clinical concern. Blood glucose meters must meet accuracy standards set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

In the lab, venous blood is analysed for blood sugar. At home, capillary blood is used for the analysis of blood sugar in the glucose meters. More over blood sugar level in the body is always changing. Quality of the glucose meter and the strip also affect the results.

Luckily you are not a diabetic. I know a gentleman in chennai who has bought accucheck

Spent rs 25k in a month by merely checking his sugar in accucheck. Beware u tend to waste your time and money , one day the accucheck will become junk in your house.

There will be a difference even same blood is used (one drop from vein at lab). There will also be a difference between 2 strips of same pack. The difference may go upto 10percent value. What is to be understood at home test is that these are guideline values. As you all know the band viz. Fb 80 to 120 and Pb upto 160 is quite broad and the difference does not matter. Comparing once in lab with same drop of blood can give the confidence to know how close the home results are with that of lab. If in serious doubt with the equipment you take help of their Service to check accuracy with a standard solution

Glucometer is only for rough measurement. Two measurements with same blood sample too can give different results. My glucose meter company says, if you want to test FBS & PPBS for comparison you must buy PAIR strip specially. This means same pack will have strips from different batches of manufacture & hence may have different electro-chemical properties. Occasionally confirm that the machine is not damaged.

You too can EVEN cure your diabetes yourself like me.

TAKING MEDICINES ALONE WILL NOT BRING DOWN BLOOD SUGAR ALWAYS. THAT IS WHY PATIENTS ARE FORCED TO MOVE FROM EXERCISE TO DIET CONTROL TO LOW DOSE TABLETS TO HIGHER DOSE TABLETS TO INSULIN INJECTION AND COMBINATIONS OF THESE. YOU HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR FOOD HABITS & LIFE STYLE ALSO TEMPORARILY TILL CURE.

Diabetes is a fundamental disorder. It is comparable with low voltage in an electric circuit. In both cases all connected subsystems will under-perform and will fail in due course. It will affect SEX life also, if diab is not contained. Diab impairs the glucose (SUGAR) & oxygen supply to ALL CELLS of the patient. You cannot compensate the resultant weakness with liquor, food or medicines.

A DIABETES PATIENT (also known as A DIABETIC) need NOT starve. PROPER or APPROPRIATE food can be eaten EVEN FULL STOMACH THRICE DAILY! Try to understand diabetes & conquer it like me.

While following the Long-wheat diet explained in the article referred below, non-vegetarians can have MEAT/FISH/EGG in moderate quantities as side-dishes/curries.

I was diabetic from 2006; but NOT diabetic from 2009. I studied Diabetes thoroughly, because it was to solve MY problem.
