I DO TAKE MEDICINE. I TAKE 100 UNITS OF INSULIN PER DAY AND 3 ORAL MEDICINES. I USED TO HAVE VERY HIGH BLOOD SUGAR. ALWAYS ABOVE 300. EVEN FASTING USED TO BE MORE THAN 300. DIET WAS VEGETARIAN GUJARATI DIET BUT NOTHING WORKED TILL I SWITCHED TO MASALA OATS. NOW MT FASTING BLODD SUGAR IS AROUND 100 AND PP2BS IS AROUND 150.MIND YOU THESE OATS ARE TAKEN WITH WATER AND NO SUGAR.

I eat oats swollen in diluted milk and along with two pcs. of bread is perfectly alright for my breakfast though I take insulin 26 units/day. As a change I tried Masala oats, particularly on sunday, but it increases the BS. Masala oats contains sugar and other things which may not be good for people with high blood sugar.

You have got agood result and you may continue but keep a check on your blood sugar level regularly..

I have been eating Quaker oats since last 3 years. Always with boiled water and salt. For variations, I boil different veg (Small quantities) an since last 6 months am using Bagrry's wheat bran every time. Of l;ate, I am adding flax seeds too. I never have any spikes. I think diabetics should avoid premixed oats and try to make their own mixes of healthy spices to their individual taste.

A good suggestion. Are you taking Oats in boiled water only.Do you add butter milk?

Dear Sir

could you please tell me who suggested you to take masala oats as a diabetic diet.

No one suggested. I tried by chance.

Have you tested your blood sugar both before eating and approx 2 hours after eating "masala oats" without eating anything in between ?

I have given up oats because of the blood sugar spike. I used to have oats with a little milk. This was about 3 months back. My blood sugar has fallen after quiting oats. I used to eat either Quaker or Kellog's.

I now eat a much tastier and healthier (for me) breakfast comprising eggs, bacon and either sausages or cooked ham.

What the hell is "masala oats"?

Plain oats is better choice all these Masala Stuff. Don't get carried by all these ads in newspapers and TV.

I do agree and support the comments of Mr.Chithrabhanu as I have seen many diabetic patients consume a lot of 'unwanted' items either due to their ignorance or carried away by misleading advts. Even Masala oats can do harm if it contains lot of sugar. It might be tasty; but, dangerous.

Masala oats are very tasty. And it works for me.

in reply tomanishankar

Tasty it might be, but that's not the issue. Health is the issue and if "masala oats" works for you, go for it !!! However, oats are carbs and carbs are not good for diabetics. So, others should be warned. Ultimately, of course, its up to them to decide. Cheers !!

Taking cue from from the above, I suggest the following:

1. take 50% regular Oats, boil in water or soak in water and add to a vegetable salad.

I use vegetables that include carrot, cabbage, capsicum, brocolli etc., some ground nut soaked for one to 2 hours will add to taste. In addition, you can add sprouted moong or channa. This will take the hunger out and also reduces Carb.

Suggest that you follow this for at least 3 days a week.
