Auto immune system means our own immune system going haywire and destroying our own body cells.In the present case,the beta cells which produce insulin are completely destroyed,so much so the person has to depend solely on external sources for insulin for life time.Oral medicines do not work.It is called Type ! diabetes or juvenile diabetes because it manifests at an early age or insulin dependant diabetes.Another example of auto immune condition is rheumatoid arthritis
