which is the good meter/instrument for daily checking blood sugar level at home with reasonable cost

First your question itself is wrong.. No need for checking daily. May be you are so concern then you can check once in a week. Only in hospitalised patients will check daily and periodically morning and evening. First mentally get releived that the sugar is high...wishes to good health..

One Touch Select Simple is a good choice
Accuchek is most reliable, can be handled easily and costwise most economical. It depends on you and is the only instrument if available can be used for empty stomach test. A diabetic patient must have such machine always in possession.
Many times I have tested the same sample at same time with both Accucheck and One touch Select Simple.The results are the same.Do not worry as almost all glucometers n strips are directly imported and their accuracy within permissible variation is guaranteed.But once a month lab test is recommended and at the same time test with glucometers n see the difference
There are quite a lot of Brands available.I have used atleast three brands in the last 15 years.Now I am using Dr Morepen BG 03 Glucomonitor.All brands gives only indicative Blood sugar level.Once in a while better to check with another source,(same time)to know the crediblity of the monitor.You can find on line , offers.To choose the M/C based on the per test cost, if you wish to monitor frequently.
It is more helpful,when the glucose level, falls low, espscly, night time.Lower glucose level is more dangerous.
more or standard company machines are good.mejority machine need coded strips. now new machine do not need code. you must read methods of doing.correct method give accurate result. if it is too high or low consult your doctor before taking any medicine.
One in India should go for using Accuchek Performa glucometer only. This is because the strip costs only Rs 8/= per strip.
I was used to Accucheck Aviva. But this strip in india is expensive.
Now the Performa machine and strip both are available at Bombay, India, one should use only this for economic and often testing purposes.

it is almost rs.20/- a strip - no? pack of 50 for rs.1000/- aginst mrp of 1250/-
anup in which city you are ? in delhi it is costing rs.1250/- 50 strips but since i am buying insulin also, i am getting for1000- (.) see how much margin they have

I hope our government allows ration on glucometers, atleast one meter per diabetic home. The time is over for state/central govt. to think about rationing medicines and equipments for the public who are diabetic. When they take census why don't include this query too. they will know the alrming truth. But who cares these poor chaps......eh.....
then even non diabetics will register as diabetic just to acquire the glucometer and then sell it off to make profit just like they sell off the bicycles they get free for their daughters from secondary schools. 
I am aware of the price of accucheck active strips as discussed here. However last time I bought 100 strips @Rs 1200 from ebay.in. Worked well. Ordered again with a discount coupon of Rs 100 against online vodafone recharge. Deal is not bad it seems!
