If PPBS is near or above 140, urine testing at home with Benedicts solution is sufficient; very cheap & no puncturing the fingers!!!

Yes I agree with Venkatramana, One touch and Acu check are well known. but strips for both machines are very expensive. If u want to use machine regularly then buy strips in bulk so u can save some money.

I ve been using Accuchek Active- since 4-5 yrs no problem as it is very easy to use, and clean up in case you drop blood- very long battery life which is easily available, the strips are available at very low cost at ebay.in. I got a box of 100 strips for about Rs.1100/- and at ebay you can see the expiry date which is normally over a year after you get the delivery - 2 to 3- days max.

I use EASY-PRIK Basic Blood Glucose Monitoring System. It is giving good service. Earlier I used Pulsatom;s ACE Blood Glucose Meter but it gives so called accuracy. I found false reading many times. So I give up it and switched over To EASY-PRIK which is reliable for me. It is proved good in sense of Pathological cross checking. But I want to say no any of the machine is fully reliable and no each medicines are suitable to diabetes. It is my experience . It vary man to man.

Every machine is best provided it is caliberated periodically. Moreover all these stripped machines gives higher lavel of blood sugar so they limitize to only diferenciate in hyper or hypoglycemia. otherwise its role is just to have rough guides.

Thanks to all.

George- can you explain in more detail how the Bennedict solution method works out? Is there a kit one can buy? Or you need to buy components separately? If so, what to buy? How do we test?

Hi asku2013,

When I bought long long ago for my mother, it was available as a kit. Those are still with me & shall publish photos in a post here if you need to see. Full name of it is Benedict's Qualitative Reagent; colour is Blue. Composition is printed on the label.Five colour strips are also printed for users to interpret the result. If the resultant colour is Blue - no US, Green - 0.5% US, Yellow - 1.0%, Brown - 1.5% & Red - 2.0%.

Components of the kit are:

100 ml bottle of BQR

A test tube

A holder to hold the test tube while heating

A spirit lamp to heat the mixture

A dropper to measure urine & reagent

If what I remember about the measure is correct a mixture of one portion of urine & eight portions of reagent is to be taken in the test tube & heated gently till boiling. By that time the colour-change would take place. Then interpret the colour& decide the extent of US. Till US is not zero, Blood sugar test may be avoided.

Using within the Expiry period is very important as strips after expiry dates gives very wrong and unreliable readings
