I baught an insuline plant here in Chennai, does this help in controlling the sugar levels?

Can I trust the plant.....? Are there any scientific findings on these kind of Herbal Plants?

Definitely it will reduce the Sugar level. But you have Then kani, it will neutralize the sugar level and it will not allow to reduce less than 80. I am using the same and i am not using English Medicine for the past 2 Years.

I am a diabetic, and I baught the plant in Chennai. I can provide you directions.

On the way to Pondycherry via ECR from chennai you will find a first toll gate. Just after crossing the Toll Gate on your right hand side, you will find couple of nurseries, You can get Insulin plant from any of the nurseries.

I baught the plant for RS 200 well planted in a pot with good soil.

Known to lower blood glucose, effect being comparable to tolbutamide; Exhibits significant antidiabetic activity and corrects the metabolic alterations in diabetic rats and this activity may resemble insulin-like properties.

Its leaves helps to build up insulin in the human body so it is commonly known as insulin plant in India This plant was grown in America and is becoming popular in India because of its medicinal chemicals. It is now accepted and used widely as an Ayurvedic medicinal herb. Consumption of the leaves are believed to lower blood glucose levels, and diabetics who consumed the leaves of this plant did report a fall in their blood glucose levels.

Medicinal Use: In Ayurvedic treatment diabetes patients are advised to chew down the Insulin plants leaves for a month. The patient has to take two leaves per day in the morning and evening for one week. The leaves must be chewed well before swallowing. After one week the patient should take one leaf each in the morning and evening. This dosage should be continued for 30 days.

Research: According to International Journal of Ayurveda Research a new study on Insulin plant (Costus ingneus) was pblished recently. The leaves of insulin plant (Costus igeus) reduced the fasting and postprandial blood sugar levels, bringing them down towards normal, in dexamethasone-induced hyperglycemia in rats. Reduction in the fasting and the postprandial blood sugar levels with leaves of insulin plant was comparable with that obtained with Glibenclamide 500 µg/kg at 250 mg/kg/day and 500 mg/kg/day of powdered leaves of the insulin plant (Costus igeus)

Important Note: This plant was recommended by Shri Anand Guruji in his Pranavam programme telecasted in ETV Kannada Channel. While browsing on this plant I heard that taking the insulin plant over a long period of time screws up the kidneys! Please avoid this plant; you might get interim relief, but not over the long term. Before consuming, please clarify or consult with knowledged person on this plant.

The idea was not to contradict the users. We are a family of people with diabetes and we should share our knowledge, some times our ignorances and experiences. What works for one will not or may not work for another. That is fine. We shoud regularly check our sugar levels, be on regular medicines and exercises ,(it can be simple 30 mins walking per day), try any herbal or any other rare product people mentionin these columns and decide forourselves the benefits ofsuch products, ofcourse after regular blood sugar testing anddoctor's advice. Not all doctors want youto be onpills for eternity. In fact,my doctor suggested a reduction of medicines , not the dosage but the types of medicines.

Very useful info given. The literature is abundant with all sort of After effects with medicinal plants. The allopathic medicines leads the list of serious offenders (after effects) many users of Ayurveda Meds are saying there are little side effects. It is difficult for a diabetic to choose which will give maximum relief. I am not sure about homeo meds and its effects.

Good information.

1) seems to be pancreas whipping medicine.

2)Claimed to be regenerating beta cells. Actually in t2d beta cells are dysfunctional and not dead.

3)Only low carb / keto diet can reverse D, reduce ir and improve insulin sensitivity.

No medicine in universe can cure D. Rather than running after a fallacy follow right strategy. Low carb low calorie diet. Keto if possible.
