I have been told the leaves of the plant have more effect then the powder as what else is mixed in the powder might be harmful as well

Insulin Plant: This can be beneficial to anyone who has trouble with high blood sugar levels, and particularly to that in diabetes. The insulin plant, Costus igneus, is used as an ornamental plant in Southern India. Powdered leaves of the insulin plant have been shown to be effective in controlling blood sugar levels.

I think the right insulin plant is Gudmaar and it is available all over India,in powder form and raw.Best way to test the authenticity is to take one pinch of this powder and then take one pinch of sugar, you will find sugar has lost its sweetness.

Sir,

Are you sure both are the same?

"Gudmar was initially known as meshashringi in Sanskrit, which means “ram’s horn”. The plant can be described as a large, pubescent, woody climber."

Insulin plant "Chamaecostus cuspidatus, common name fiery costus or spiral flag, is a species of herbaceous plant in the Costaceae family native to eastern Brazil. In India, it is known as insulin plant for its purported anti-diabetic properties. Chamaecostus cuspidatus has large fleshy looking leaves."

Ram’s horn? That’s used for two Jewish holidays ( Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year)) and Yom Kippur (the horn is used to make noise/music as a shofar). Very interesting information, sandybrown .

Hi Bns1 ,

Has your doctor suggested that you start using the insulin plant? When was your last appointment? What are your blood sugars during the day and evening hours?

Bns1 profile image

sandybrown in reply to Bns1

I take it this number is in %, did you doctor give to a target level?

Are you on any medication at the moment?

What is your daily, weekly food intake like, please give some examples.

In UK there has been few articles in the news papers on how to control blood sugar level by food intake control, checking blood sugar level at home before and after a meal and avoiding high blood glucose level food.

You may have check your weight and waist measurement. There is a ratio now days people look at, height to waist ratio.

Thanks.

Please look at life style change, watching out for free and hidden sugar in food and drinks and also regular exercise first before any medication. Leaving more than 12 hours between the evening meal and breakfast can help. Avoid adding sugar to food and drinks.

Dear Sandy/ Bns1/Jerry/ Nair/Fatbuddy/ Activity2004

Like you all, I used to Love to hear about effectiveness of natural herbs such as Insulin plant, Gudmar, Jamun seed, Methi powder, Ceylon cinnamon, Karela- Bitter guard, Amla, Ghrit Kumari, Turmeric and many others......

We feel that nothing has gone wrong with me ... May be some slight disorder in my body ... and there must be some natural herbs which can cure me.....

I may sound like a person with negativity towards Ayurvedic cure....but the reality .and My humble submission.....

(1) Diabetes : How old is the disease since it's discovery and since when it is attacking the mankind???

The answer is it is as old as Mankind! 😊Perhaps the number of diabetes are increasing which may not be true ! Because population of human beings on the earth is also increasing ! And it is Pandemic! 😊

(2) if there were a clear solution by herbs, then by now we would have killed the disease!

(3) yes, some of These herbs may be helpful to have some blood glucose reducing properties...but then diabetes brings with it host of its friends which attack all human organs irrespective of blood glucose reduction.. it is progressive....

(4) The truth is that No drugs is known to reverse the disorder....regenerate beta cells....whether it is Allopathy, Ayurvedic or homeopath....though we can manage the disorder .....delay the progression....minimise complications....

(5) As far as Ayurvedic and herbs are concerned...unfortunately long term Safety, efficacy , reliability is not yet established by any large scale , well organised randomised controlled trials with all kinds of human race - geographical locations . ...moreover the property of the herbs are not consistent with time and change of place and climate .... due to soil erosion....soil losing its nutritional property.

(6) In the land of Ayurveda, During last 5 years Govt of India has formulated in a more scientific way in a more organised way in collaboration with all leading Ayurvedic specialists: Two very important Ayurvedic drugs , well researched, to cure diabetes .... BGR34 and IME 9....much acclaimed to cure diabetes.... So much so BGR 34 was claimed to have DPP4 property in line with Sitagliptin/ Vildagliptin....

But what happened???? The results is mixed.... and even if it has helped... It is just too little... Definitely not as effective as Allopathy drugs... Please see the reviews from actual diabetes in Amazon India website.... Moreover with a lot of side effects....

(7) Finally, i would like to know if there is anyone in this forum who has bern able to reverse Type 2, by herbs ??? Consistently ...along with blood glucose reducing .... Lipids, liver function, Kidney function and other complications..

I will wait for an answer to my question????

Please read the link below...to understand BGR34, and IME 9...

altnews.in/bgr-34-ime-9-dru...

Finally I appreciate Activity 2004, who made the statement :

" Has your doctor suggested that you start using the insulin plant? When was your last appointment? What are your blood sugars during the day and evening hours?"

If you want to try your luck with any herb, please go ahead and keep an watch on your blood sugar level and overall well being....

Well , i am not suggesting you to take all Allopathy medicines...first try to control your blood sugar as much as you can through your diet and exercise...Also try to find out if your case is basically due to predominantly IR or Low insulin levels due to beta cell defunct...

Accordingly you may need allopathy medication ....along with Diet and exercise to control blood sugar ...... Keep checking at regular intervals all your lab parameters your heart, kidney, liver, eye, leg....and in case of abnormality get guided by medical experts..though this forum can give you some tips and their own experience ...
