Frequency of meals for diabetic persons

Instead of taking two2-3 major meals, diabetics should consume five to six small meals spread (over) through out the day. Big heavy meals mean big changes in blood sugar levels. Small meals will avoid major swings in blood sugar levels, which will help in controlling diabetes with minimum medicine. By avoiding ups & downs of blood sugars in day-to-day life, one can live an additional 15 years life free of diabetic complication and can extend life for more than 5 years.

Dear Anup! I am awaiting your suggested menu for LOW CARB HIGH fat menu for a south indian vegetarian diet please.

Vittalanand profile image
Vittalanand

It is found not practicable in reality. For, as a diabetes, I am unable to take food in piecemeal because, once I take my first food of a cup of 'UPPMA' or 2 Idlies the stuff make me go as full belleid and further food intakes at intervals cause me indigestions. I usually therfore take a simple meal of about 150 grams of cooked rice as south indian vegetarian thali by 11 AM and after that I get belly full sensation within an hour that makes me to forgo intermediate foods, snacks etc until about 4PM when I am able to have a cup of coffee. Then follows the night meals at 9.PM with a reduced intake of about 100grams of cooked rice, and I retire to bed at 11 PM after a banana and diluted milk of about 85ML.Just the first intake of food makes my system to refuse anything more at intervals of 3 hrs. This I share you not for suggestions, but for pointing out intermediate small meals is not possible in all cases.

No sir, not all the banas are forbidden. Get the advice of a nutrition . He will give a list which varieties you can take and which you should not take. For eg. You are forbidden to consume green banana fruit. But you can take hill grown banana.

“KODRI” , RICE LIKE GRAIN, HELPS FIGHT DIABETES AND OTHERS.

10 Dec. 2013

“Kodri”, is a wild husked millet. It yields a white rice like grain when de husked, which fights diabetes, obesity, besides being antirheumatic. It heals wounds and also acts as a tranquiliser! These findings are not that of any quack, but that of an eminent, learned scientist who has been researching into medicinal properties of herbs for a life time at Baroda’s M.S. University as Head of Botony Dept., and is now heading his own research institution at Baroda.

Prof. M. Daniel, is a scientist renowned for his research relating to medicinal properties of plants and herbs. He revealed this information in a talk with “Times of India” recently.

“Kodri” is cultivated in several states of India and in many other countries, for its grain and use as fodder. After de husking, the white rice like grain is to be cooked and used like rice. “Since ancient times, “Kodri” is consumed as a food by diabetic patients since traditionally it was believed that it reduces sugar level.” He mentioned that “recent experiments proved that aqueous and ethanolic extracts administered in required dosages, helped bring down Fasting Blood Sugar (FBG) levels.

The extracts of “Kodri”, responsible for anti diabetic property possesses anti diabetic compounds such as quercetin and phenollic acids like vanillic acid syringic acid, sys ferrulic acid, phydroxybenzoic acid and melilotic acid. .

“The data on the phyto chemicals of “Khodri” substantiates the anti diabetic property exhibited by this grain”, said Prof. M. Daniel in the TOI interview. “Khodri” can be grown even in poor soil conditions or even in stony soils.

For further clarifications, readers are welcome to contact Pro.M.Daniel, His e mail id is mdanieluni@gmail.com

As per Ayurveda gap between every meal minimum 3-4 hrs should be there. If we take 5-6 times in a day there will be more burden in digestive system and it will be get more damage . I think one should take light meal at fixed time only 3 times morning-at noon and evening.
