Frequency of meals for diabetic persons

Instead of taking two2-3 major meals, diabetics should consume five to six small meals spread (over) through out the day. Big heavy meals mean big changes in blood sugar levels. Small meals will avoid major swings in blood sugar levels, which will help in controlling diabetes with minimum medicine. By avoiding ups & downs of blood sugars in day-to-day life, one can live an additional 15 years life free of diabetic complication and can extend life for more than 5 years.

  • I TOO LIKE AND FEEL INSPIRED

  • I am eating 2-3 meals of LOW CARB HIGH FAT and aiming for 1Hr PPBS below 140 and 2 Hr PPBS below 120. This will get me to be in a A1C range of around 5.2. This will let me live as healthy and as long as a non diabetic. I am prescription drug less so far.

  • Dear Anup! I am awaiting your suggested menu for LOW CARB HIGH fat menu for a south indian vegetarian diet please.

  • Lets begin with breakfast:

Non Strained veg Soup with lots of full fat milk cream or butter cube ... with 30-50 gms mixed nuts (peanut + almonds + pinenut + walnut) ... and the days it is n ot nut it can be nice veg pakoras made of anythingt except potato and fried in Coconut Oil. Add paneer to your menu but keep it less than 100gms/day and no soya paneer (ie no TOFU)

Soup should be non strained and should be all thick and hot. 300-400ml with 40-50gms full fat cream or butter cube. Once you get accustomed to this your lunch will reduce and so will your medicines once tyouyr body gets to process less carbs.

For lunch remove chapati and rice completely. It's all nice dry veg preparation, nice load of full fat milk yogurt raita with onion, cucumber, rock salt and one catorie daal (n ot more than 7-10 gram raw lentils).

Snack on nuts and green tea.

Watch your PPBS and adjust your medicine as levels drop.

Please start and see how the benifits are. Then you will automatically start cutting Carbs as you see benefits. Why eat rice, chapati? might as well take an apple rather than eat roti rice.

GIST: Make your aim to go off all RICE/WHEAT completely. Then innovate. I even eat Coconut 9what we call Garee in hindi) because it has fat and fiber (and carb of course but that's unavoidable). It's all about innovating .. with one goal in mind .. keep carbs less than 100gms/day and increase good fats.

Yes for a vegetarian, options do get limited. If you can tolerate eggs then omlete in breakfast alternate days is also another choice.

  • ANSWER SHOULD BE PRACTICAL. FOR GENERAL PEOPLES IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE MEALS AS PER YR ADVICE

  • Oh really? Then eat Rice and eat PILLS.

    This is not for you.

  • SHRI ANUPJI IDD YOU REMEMBER WHEN YOU READ MY BLOG

AS PER YOUR SUGGESTIONS I REDUCED CHAPATIS FROM 3 TO 2 IN EVG AND 1 OR 2 IN MOR IN LONCH 2 EXERCISE AND YOGA REG BESIDES WALKING MUST MY BS PP FST BOTH HAVE DYNAMICALLY/MERICIOUSLY LOW

    THANKS PANCHSHEEL

  • If it is really running low and you are taking medicines then it is time to adjust your medicines. What medicines do you take?

It is also good for people to see how just chapati and rice can make a big difference.

  • I TAKE METAFORT 500MG TWO TIME AND REDUCED CHAPATIS

AS CONCERNING RICE WE PEOPLE USUALLY DO NOT LIKE MUCH NOR IT IS OUR STAPLE FOOD

  • is butter good in diabetes? normally i heard of people can take skimmed milk but u r saying full fatty milk.

  • On Low carb High fat diet, Butter, Cheese, Virgin Coconut Oil, Nuts and seeds, Eggs with yolk, Whole fat cream, Whole fat dairy, fresh cream are one of the best things. Skimmed milk is useless.

The general perception that fat and saturated fat is bad is a MYTH and a "Big Fat" Lie spread for decades. Only fat to be avoided is trans fat (zero consumption) and pufa loaded industrial vegetable oils like canola, safola, sunflower etc.

I haven't seen my LIPIDS go bad on a diet that has close to 60% fat for energy. This has been the case with almost every diabetic on LCHF diet. Exceptions will be there as a result of some being hyper-responders, but that number is very low.

Authorities say that don't eat 3 or 4 eggs per week because it will be bad for cholesterol levels as egg yolks have high cholesterol. I have been eating 2 eggs per day for six days a week since 54 months and loaded with cheese and butter. Cholesterol levels haven't gone bad at all. Same has been the experience of every diabetics on LCHF diet who has been eating eggs, way beyond what authorities suggest. So, someone in authority is wrong.

  • Agreed

  • How many eggs in a week and with or without Yolk?thanks.

  • I have been on 12 eggs a week (2/day except Tuesday) for many years. Then increased to 18 eggs/week recently. Eggs without YOLK is a useless food.

  • Thanks Anup Ji.

  • Anup Ji,

What's your ratio of VCO per Large Egg.

    Thanks.

  • No ratio.

  • Sir, I am a diabetic patient since 1990. I am on oral pills but now my sugar level going up and my fasting remains about 165 and PP 235. My doctor advising me to come on insulin. Will U kindly guide me about LCHF diet. My weight is about 69 Kg. and I am a retired person of 63 years of age. I am having very less activity. Kindly help me, my email address is bkagar@gmail.com

  • It is not practical to everybody who are suffering from from this disease. Hence please advise alternative.

  • It's not practical for a diabetic who is in a job to be eating every 2 hrs. Only alternative is LOW CARB HIGH FAT diet which lets you eat normal 3 meals and still doesn't let you sugar levels climb high.

Imagine in 8 hour hob taking break every 2 hrs just to eat something. Boss will fire in no time .... :)

Yes theoretically eating carbs every 2 hours sounds good. But Carbs will still spike sugar levels.

  • IN OFFICE TRY TO TAKE 65% OF MEAL AT LUNCH AND TAKE TEA WITH SNACKS AFTER THREE HOURS.

  • I don't need to as i am not on ADA HIGH CARB DIET.

  • Dear Anup Ji, This Morning my FBS was 98 (I took Janumet 50-1000mg. ) last night. but after 2 cups of freshly brewed black coffee my BS is 124 after one hr. Is black Coffee is OK on LCHF diet. Thanks.

  • ANUPJI YOU SUGGEST LOW CARB AND HIGHFAT EFFECTS COLLESTRAL THEN HOW ONE TAKE MORE

ONE OF OUR FRIEND JUST CAME TO KNOW TODAY ONLY HE LEFT BANK TODAY EARLY BECAUSE AFTER READING HISMEDICAL REPORT OUR BANKS COLOUGE ALSO FELT HURT

  • If you are taking tests while you are losing weight you will have high cholesterol. Just high cholesterol alone doesn't mean anything. What are ratios and what does VAP profile say? Not all LDL is bad.

  • If people are looking at just total it can be misleading.

    What's TC/HDL, LDL/HDL ratio.

Remember even not ALL LDL is bad. So those who have a elevated LDL also go for VAP profile. Large fluffy LDL is harmless.

  • Yes, Eating LOW CARB HIGH FAT is healthy way for diabetics as it also controls LIPIDS. Saturated Fat is the best drug for LIPIDS, specially VCO and Eggs.

So called healthy diet -- HIGH CARB LOW FAT -- as proposed by ADA/AMA/AHA and so called diabetic experts is really good for drug sales.

One Gujarati Diabtic from the UK shared how his LIPIDS improved in three months whereas his docter was pushing him to STATINS just 3 months back before his results on LCHF diet. He swear by LCHF diet now as his A1c also improved to 5.x range :)

  • HI difidend,

  • Hi Amit,

    Sent you a private message.

  • It is found not practicable in reality. For, as a diabetes, I am unable to take food in piecemeal because, once I take my first food of a cup of 'UPPMA' or 2 Idlies the stuff make me go as full belleid and further food intakes at intervals cause me indigestions. I usually therfore take a simple meal of about 150 grams of cooked rice as south indian vegetarian thali by 11 AM and after that I get belly full sensation within an hour that makes me to forgo intermediate foods, snacks etc until about 4PM when I am able to have a cup of coffee. Then follows the night meals at 9.PM with a reduced intake of about 100grams of cooked rice, and I retire to bed at 11 PM after a banana and diluted milk of about 85ML.Just the first intake of food makes my system to refuse anything more at intervals of 3 hrs. This I share you not for suggestions, but for pointing out intermediate small meals is not possible in all cases.

  • SH VITHALANANDJI BANANAS ARE FORBIDDED TO US THEN HOW YOU TAKING

    WONT IT INC BSL

    REGARD PANCHSHEEL

  • No sir, not all the banas are forbidden. Get the advice of a nutrition . He will give a list which varieties you can take and which you should not take. For eg. You are forbidden to consume green banana fruit. But you can take hill grown banana.

  • Not all bananas are forbidden.Hill grown (they call it malai vazhai in south) is good but not green banana (fruit variety) is not advised.

  • I am glad to know. Pl. let me know how long did U have diabetes.?Thanks.

  • Absolutely correct. The spike will be less and it will not exceed 160 after one hr. and after two hr 110/120

  • 100% CORRECT HAI.

  • “KODRI” , RICE LIKE GRAIN, HELPS FIGHT DIABETES AND OTHERS.

    10 Dec. 2013

“Kodri”, is a wild husked millet. It yields a white rice like grain when de husked, which fights diabetes, obesity, besides being antirheumatic. It heals wounds and also acts as a tranquiliser! These findings are not that of any quack, but that of an eminent, learned scientist who has been researching into medicinal properties of herbs for a life time at Baroda’s M.S. University as Head of Botony Dept., and is now heading his own research institution at Baroda.

Prof. M. Daniel, is a scientist renowned for his research relating to medicinal properties of plants and herbs. He revealed this information in a talk with “Times of India” recently.

“Kodri” is cultivated in several states of India and in many other countries, for its grain and use as fodder. After de husking, the white rice like grain is to be cooked and used like rice. “Since ancient times, “Kodri” is consumed as a food by diabetic patients since traditionally it was believed that it reduces sugar level.” He mentioned that “recent experiments proved that aqueous and ethanolic extracts administered in required dosages, helped bring down Fasting Blood Sugar (FBG) levels.

The extracts of “Kodri”, responsible for anti diabetic property possesses anti diabetic compounds such as quercetin and phenollic acids like vanillic acid syringic acid, sys ferrulic acid, phydroxybenzoic acid and melilotic acid. .

“The data on the phyto chemicals of “Khodri” substantiates the anti diabetic property exhibited by this grain”, said Prof. M. Daniel in the TOI interview. “Khodri” can be grown even in poor soil conditions or even in stony soils.

  • take Fiber contained food for easy digestion.

  • As per Ayurveda gap between every meal minimum 3-4 hrs should be there. If we take 5-6 times in a day there will be more burden in digestive system and it will be get more damage . I think one should take light meal at fixed time only 3 times morning-at noon and evening.

  • My BS went up whenever I ate bowl of lentils or Chick peas. Should I avoid these foods. I an trying to follow LCHF diet since Nov. 11th,2015 and have lost 10lbs. so far. Also please anybody tell me how many points of BS equals 1 Carb? Thanks.

  • Does the 2 diet LWMDR and LCHF contradict each other ?

  • Yes it does if you eat 2gm/kg of body weight wheat which makes it around 100 grams carbs from wheat alone for a 75 kg diabetic. If you eat 1gm/Kg body weight then it gels well. Now LW even allows upto 300 grams and that too flour. Not sure how many diabetics have tried 300 grams of LW wheat flour daily and maintained non diabetic numbers without drugs :)

  • Good suggestion ! !

    I will try to follow.
