My cousin has been prescribed 50 mg of antenolol(25mg morning +25 mg evening)+ 8 mg canderstatan daily for hypertension she feels this is quite a high dose as her blood pressure has come down well since being on this dosage, ask GP if she could reduce dosage as she has been feeling tired & sometimes lightedheaded also pains periodically in her legs,GP said to remain on this dosage as her blood pressure is not coming down enough, she is referring her to hypertension clinic, although this is only the 2nd medication she has been on,we are wondering why the referral so soon as GP also seemed pleased how blood pressure had come down &was very reluctant to reduce dosage..Has anyone else experienced this,&has anyone been on such a high dosage for several months? Please can anyone advise &help with this problem. Thanks everyone on this wonderful site,we would be totally lost without you all..

Good morning

I’m on atenolol and have been for about 6 years or so. 50 mg dividend into morning and night is how I take it as well.

The half life is about 12 hours so when taking the second half puts her back at the therapeutic level.

50 mg per day is a small dosage and the side affects she is having will fade once her body gets used to what normal feels like again.

It’s like when I first started taking metformin I was feeling all screwed up for a few months. What it’s was my body was feeling like I had low sugar at 100 but as we know that’s normal rage. When my normal sugar was 160 it was an adjustment to my system. Now my Blood sugar averages 130 and when it goes to 90 I feel shaky ,sweating and I have the need to have glucose , when I really don’t.

Best wishes John

Thank you ironj,I passed on your top tips to my cousin, she in turn was delighted as she has been taking her antenolol in the morning then the next 25 mg 8 hours later, she will now wait 12 hours before her evening dose, which should

help alleviate her side effects...We wish you good health & much happiness for the future ironj,& God bless. x
