Is this change in HbA1c typical from losing 15 pounds in a year?

Can modest weight loss make a big difference to HbA1c results?

My HbA1c reading went from 50 to 40 mmol/mol in a year. (Or 6.7% to 5.8% NGSP.)

In that time I lost approx 15 pounds starting from 250 pounds, or 7kg from 120kg. (For Brits, that's 1 stone from 18 stones.)

Is this improvement typical for people who lose this amount of weight, or am I very lucky to see such a large drop?

Cetus First of all, congratulations! Your HbA1C number shows that you are no more diabetic. This is great achievement. Keep it up.

Regarding your query if it is typical response for everyone after losing weight, I would say it depends on individual's conditions. Not everybody will see the same level of improvement but the trend will be same. It depends how insulin resistant the individual was to start with and how much fat loss has occurred around the liver. Thanks for sharing the information.

Yes, it does happen. Keep weight off and you will be in great shape. It's not always easy (I know) but will power builds the more you use it . Well done to you.
