Can't work due to my anxiety and depression.

I can't work at the moment due to my anxiety. I'm on medication at the moment which is 100 mg sertraline, and on sleeping tablets to help me sleep better. I'm fairly stressed because I feel like Im kind of trapped, I've recently moved in with a bf out my own area, and gave up my previous home, which was renting, but the bills was getting to high to manage. But taking the step moving in with my bf as made things worse for me because I can't work still, and I don't receive any benefits at all, and my bf don't support me financially. I've got a few debts and bills to pay, and I'm not totally happy in the relationship, but I got no where to live. So I'm fairly stressed.

Thank you for sharing your similar problems in regarding unable to work, I really thought there was only me in the world struggling. Mine as been over 3 years now possibly going on to 4 years. I've had many good opportunities, and I've put all effort in trying to get a job,and even applying for volunteering positions, but when the opportunity gets offered to me I kind of chicken out in a way, then I beat myself up after and thinking how stupid I was to have not been able to cope with it, which then makes me feel even worse about myself after because I just think to my self here I go again back in the same viscous circle and then I'm stuck in the same rut, all of this is ruining my life, because I think everyone needs a purpose in life, whether its getting up to look after your children, or working etc, but because I've not got children of my own I no my only way to get out the rut and boring life I have is to get a healthy routine, which is a job, and then I'll be back independent and strong again like I was before.

Sorry for going on a bit, but I guess it's got to come out some way or another and chatting on here is probably a good way to get things of my mind.

Thanks again

Hi ya

I'm in a similar situation to you with a slight difference, I have no one now, no purpose as you say, my children grown up and fled the nest. I understand what you say about chickening out, but don't give up , I think we will do it when we are ready. I'm going to push myself as much as I can, I'm thinking either that or I stay feeling like this and I don't want to feel like this forever, it's horrible.

I have put myself forward for 2 hrs voluntary work Monday afternoons not sure if it will work or if I will go but not giving up well I hope not..I know it's hard and so so easy just to stay in,, I take one day at a time, today I've made myself have a nice bubble bath and relaxed, because I could, and I felt like it.. Not easy but if I think about it in advance I can get there..

I don't understand why you get no money you must be entitled to something surely..I put a link on one of my blogs too about claiming sick pay etc, you should look into it again not easy but I tell myself it's survival and gear myself up for it..

I wish you well and please don't feel your going on, that's what the site is here for..and it's helped me soooo much

Hi Sue,

Thanks for sharing your similar problems, it really does help knowing I ain't in the world on my own struggling to be able to work or even volunteer. Yes I do have a bf, but I'm not totally happy. Has you mentioned your children have grown up and you are all on your own, if you don't mind me asking are you looking for a partner? Because if so there are good dating sites, if you find it difficult to find a person to share your problems with. I've done that my self, that's where I found the one I'm currently with. Well I hope you do well with the volunteering, and thank you for your advise I'll try and see if I qualify for some kind of support.thanks for your friendly and genuine advise.

Hiya and thank you, Lucky is right in her comment below, try going for help to the CAB..I'm sure you would feel better if you had a little money of your own, :)

Thank you for your kind word too. As a friend of mine said to me, getting back on that dating pony soon hahah, I've been indoors too long. I will get there.

You are certainly not in the world alone with your problems, lots of people on the site will tell you that.

It's lovely to talk to you , keep blogging !!! And chatting on here they are good people

Your happiness is important but remember one day at a time, and those good days will come more often.

Sue, don't say that you have no purpose. You are a very important person. The way you make people feel on this forum with your kind words and helpful advice is a purpose in itself x

Now that just brought a tear to my eye....thank you...I hope you are doing ok, you too are fab on this forum, it kinda feels good to help for me, and while I'm able to I love to do it...I guess it's because we do understand what it's like to suffer and I hate to hear of lovely people suffering..

Hope today is a good one for you XX Xx

Try to go to the local CAB and explain your situation and ask them what benefits you are entitled to, get them to help filling in forms etc. as they can be so daunting.

You must be entitled to something.

Hi I used to work for the Department of Work and Pensions. If you have mainly worked for the last two/three tax years and paid National Insurance you might be able to claim contribution based ESA (sickness benefit) for a while. You would need to get a sick note from your doctor and contact your nearest Jobcentre. If you don't qualify for contribution based benefit you wouldn't qualify for income based because of your partner's earnings.

But if he has a low wage he might be able to claim housing benefit if he rents. Any maybe a reduction of council tax.

The only other option would be to claim PIP (the old DLA). If you got this it would not affect any other benefit as it is not means tested. Look on the Government Website direct.gov.uk.

Good luck with it.
