I continue to take sinemet (100/25) 3x a day plus 3/8 teaspoon mucuna pruriens 3x and 2 requip at night for my restless leg. I am doing well except for a slight occasional tremor, more so when I am stimulated. My question is ( for those of you familiar with mucuna) should I continue to increase my MP powder until I am symptom free or wait a few weeks until my body gets used to introducing MP which I started this weekend?
Over the last few months I have eliminate... - Cure Parkinson's
Over the last few months I have eliminated 1mg azilect and 8mg requip.
I do not know the answer but will closely follow you and your experiences. What made you titrate off the azilect?. Years ago azilect made all the difference in the world for me (about 6 years ago) but I now wonder if I can and will do better without it. Thanks for sharing .
Hi Dajudge,
My goal is to reduce my meds to the minimum to hopefully avoid the side effects of dyskenesia. I would like to take 1/2 sinemet (100/25) plus mucuna pruriens 3x a day along with my low dose naltrexone at night. I came off azilect because it can not be taken with mucuna pruriens powder. My LDN has helped me come off most of my meds. MP is a natural l-dopa supplement and does not have the side effects of synthetic l-dopa. I beleive LDN can halt the progression of my disease.
Sincerely,
Bmakla
Excuse my ignorance, but what is "LDN"?
low dose naltrexone
I have been taking the good rapport ends for a year and a half the difference is that it calms me inside but not outside which means I don't have a tremor, a resting tremor that is I have taken Sinemet with it and found to be completely shaky and wobbly so I weaned myself off of Sinemet. Mucuna is the one for me although I still have other symptoms
Hi Janab,
Could you tell me how much mucuna pruriens you take and what symptoms does it prevent or help?
Thanks,
Bmakla
I buy a L-dopa (mucuna p.)from Swanson's at 15% L-dopa. I take three pills each 60 mg for a total of 180mg three times a day..Since it is only 15% L-dopa you must consider the amount of L-dopa you are receiving. It is not perfect but Sinemet doesn't work for me.I once found a greater percentage tablet but no longer can find it. It is relatively cheap. I still have other symptoms but I do not shake inside.. Some people take greater amounts them that, if they need it, up to 400 mg three times a day. I hope it works for you. I wish I could find something that will help my instability outside. PS I have no side effects from it.

i repeat
medical advise from specialists in PD not the internet, do you have doctors ???
My neurologist is not an expert on naturopathic medicine. His gold standard is medication and eventuallly DBS. I went a year (horrible pain) with a broken hip that had turned necrotic before my orthopedic Dr. finally did an MRI at my request and found out I needed a hip replacement. I decided then that I would be in charge of my health, not the Drs. I am bright enough to do my own research and find that PWP to be my greatest resource. To answer my own question I tried 1/2 teaspoon of MP and it was too much. I am going to keep the dose at 3/8 teaspoon for a few months until I feel like I can make a change again.
Hello BMakla54,
Hear, hear to your assertion that you are bright enough to make up your own mind. By all means listen to what they have to say, but check it out and discuss with other PwP, then you decide. Doctors are not the Gods some of them think they are! Ultimately, my health is my concern and I do not pass on that responsibility to the medical profession.

Hi bmakia54,
In what way could you tell that 1/2 teaspoon of MP was too much?
