Water fasting - I'm curious to see if it has a positive effect on my health (Parkinson's). I'll report back in a week.
Water fasting : Water fasting - I'm curious... - Cure Parkinson's
Water fasting
Fasting is a practical and valuable way to initiate cell autophagy but weight loss as a side effect is something that we need to be aware of.
There must have been a point in time, between 1960 & 2022, at which I weighed 76.9KG. Not now! Respect & good luck👍😀
Fasting is a stress on the body.
yes, positive stress.
There are now countless studies on the positive effects of fasting. Eating three times a day, dairy products and meat are just not healthy.
Look the movie: Hope for all, or, the system milk
Fasting is good for 12 hours. Perhaps even 24 hours.
How long do you propose to fast? Our bodies need nutrients. I'm concerned this sounds like a hunger strike.
Be careful. Check with a doctor.
I fasted for a week in Feb this year as part of PD gut biome study. It was fasting according to Buchinger (certain fruit juices ,herb teas, intake about 300 kcal). In the beginning I took too little calories and I felt seriously miserable. Fasting was stopped after a week, but I could have carried on for a few more days. Important is to empty the bowel with Glauber's salt before fasting. During fasting my symptoms were quite reduced (tremor), but came back thereafter - intermittent fasting did not do anything for me in terms of symptoms reduction. Fellow participants have told me the same. Nonetheless overall UPDRS score was pretty much constant before, during and after fasting.
good luck PDTom and please do report back , i did fasting for 3.5 days drinking only water ..but i cannot tell if it has positive effect on my symptoms...i knew about the autophagy and wanted to try to allow the process to kick in ...i may repeat this after you report back ..all the best
I've done fasting up to four days, plus eat a ketogenic diet all the time (both are good for autophagy). It is a stress on the body and that is a good thing for PD. Just like exercise, or sauna, or high altitude, these stresses generate proteins which scientists believe are neuroprotective.
BUT...it is not the kind of thing where you see a reduction in symptoms right away. If it works, it does so in a way that slows the progress of your disease. Like exercise...you might leave the gym feeling shaky and exhausted, but overall you have helped yourself. It's hard to pinpoint though.
I like to think the slow progression of my PD is due to my diet/fasting/exercise etc...but I can't prove it either.
Anyway, my point is, don't expect to necessarily "feel better" right after your fast. (I mean, you will, when you eat, but that's different! :o)
I fasted for 7 days from 9 October. During that time I lost 4.7 kilos of weight, a week later it was only 2 kilos. I feel good, but according to the results of today's measurements, it didn't have any positive effects, rather some negative ones. But you probably have to look at it in the long term. Professor Dr. med. Andreas Michalsen, who has been studying fasting for many years, says that fasting has a positive effect on Parkinson's disease, but is particularly good for MS. I know a woman who was treated by him. He told her that she should fast every 6 months. There are also numerous documentaries on the subject. It is certainly not a mistake!
