Starting Selenium and Myo-Inositol Today

First: I am not a doctor and did not even go to college. Take my opinions with a grain of salt.

Second: This a a PK group, why am I talking about Selenium and Thyroids?

I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. People with HT have twice the likelihood of developing PK. I have REMSBD, and I have to admit my sore left shoulder is starting to worry me (please let it be mouse arm), and HT causes inflammation and maybe all of these conditions just run together in a spectrum.

So I found this paper: Treatment with Myo-Inositol and Selenium Ensures Euthyroidism in Patients with Autoimmune Thyroiditis ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

They took 87 people with sub-clinical HT (TSH < 5, I think) and put them on 600 mg of Myo-Inositol and 83 mcg (83 μg) of L-selenomethionine and in 6 months. From the discussion "We could demonstrate that, in patients with AIT, the concentrations of TSH, TPOAb, and TgAb significantly decreased after administration of Myo-Ins-Se for 6 months. Furthermore, quality of life was significantly improved in all patients at the end of this study. A single case of hyperthyroidism was also analyzed, emphasizing the effect of Myo-Ins in increasing TSH levels up to normal concentrations."

Now I am not sub-clinical. And I've had HT for over 20 years. But 87 out of 87 people had their QOL improved. And it lowers inflammation. Maybe HT was the start of my journey down this road, and maybe dampening HT will be part of my journey back. If nothing else, it will be interesting when I get my TSH checked next at my next 6 month Dr visit.

I will be taking 750 mg of Myo-Inositol (that is what Amazon had) and 100 mcg of L-selenomethionine (Amazon has 200 mcg and I have a pill cutter).

WARNING: Selenium has a U shaped curve. Too much is toxic. Do your research. And YouTube says men over 50 should not take it (that would be me) as it can double your chances of getting prostate cancer. There are other bad things you can find if you look.

The research link provided here may be more confusing than helpful.

optimox.com/iodine-research

But I will let you be the judge. Pub #10 gives an insight into these guys approach to iodine supplementation.

I found massive does of iodine - three month daily doses of 12.5 mg - very helpful for temperature dysregulation, fibrocystic breast and excessive sweating, with my spouse - PwP. Did this protocol three times over the last two years.

Product here amazon.com/gp/product/B000X...

Finally did a test two months ago - no antibody testing - and found TSH, T3, T4, free T3, free T4, and reverse T3 all within range.

Continuing with selenium supplementation (200mcg) as part of a Trace Mineral combo, to put free T3 closer to mid range.

Current Free T3 (14 April 2021) 2.77 pg/ml [ Range 2.77 to 5.27 ]

Go figure 🌺

Thank you CaseyInsights.

So did you cure your Hashimoto's?

No! But I did have luck with temperature dysregulation, fibrocystic breast and excessive sweating. They are all thyroid driven conditions, or better put, they are all manifestations of iodine deficiency.

I am hopeful you find something useful in the link offered for your Hashimoto’s.🌹

HT doesn’t cause inflammation; it is caused by inflammation. All the rest I agree with you
