Starting my Saccharomyces boulardii today

I am starting my Saccharomyces boulardii today. I'm taking it on the chance that I have Blastocystis hominis, and S boulardi seems to be effective at treating Blastocystis hominis. healthunlocked.com/cure-par... Yes, I am reaching.

In one study they used 250 mg of S boulardii twice a day. From what I can find, 250 mg is 5 billion CFU, which is what is in Swanson SB. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/209...

I will cap this test at 30 days.

"Saccharomyces boulardii is LIKELY SAFE for most adults when taken by mouth for up to 15 months. It can cause gas in some people. Rarely, it might cause fungal infections that can spread through the bloodstream to the entire body (fungemia)."

Something else about S boulardii is it is somewhat effective against Candida optibacprobiotics.com/profe...

That article says you want to take another good probiotic with S boulardii as, while S boulardii may drive out Candida, S boulardii does not colonize, so you want something to fill the vacuum.

I also cut out my daily tablespoon of raw honey. I will miss that.

Just to put this out there: None of the things I have been trying have fixed my REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (although I have not fallen out of bed for months). My left shoulder and leg are still sore also :(

Seems to cut H pylori in half (but not eliminate it):

Saccharomyces Boulardii in Helicobacter Pylori Eradication in Children: A Randomized Trial From Iran 2016 ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/a...

Helicobacter pylori infects around 50% of the human population and is asymptomatic in 70% of the cases. H. pylori eradication in childhood will not only result in peptic symptoms relief, but will also prevent late-term complications such as cancer. Today, probiotics are being increasingly studied in the treatment of gastrointestinal infections as an alternative or complement to antibiotics.

Results:

24 children completed the study. The mean HpSA reduced from 0.40 ± 0.32 to 0.21 ± 0.27 in the study group, indicating a significant difference (P = 0.005). However, such difference was not observed in the control group (P = 0.89). Moreover, the HpSA titer showed a 0.019 ± 0.19 decrease in the study group whereas the same value was 0.0048 ± 0.12 for the controls, again stating a significant difference (P = 0.01).

Conclusions:

Saccharomyces boulardii has a positive effect on reducing the colonization of H. pylori in the human gastrointestinal system but is not capable of its eradication when used as single therapy.

Mechanism of berberine in treating Helicobacter pylori induced chronic atrophic gastritis through IRF8-IFN-γ signaling axis suppressing 2020 sciencedirect.com/science/a...

"Results showed serum supernatant indices including IL-17, CXCL1, and CXCL9 were downregulated by BBR intervention, while, G-17 increased significantly. Histological injuries of gastric mucosa induced by H. pylori also were alleviated. Moreover, cell viability and morphology changes of GES-1 cells were improved by BBR intervention. In addition, proinflammatory genes and IRF8-IFN-γ signaling axis related genes, including Ifit3, Upp1, USP18, Nlrc5, were suppressed by BBR administration in vitro and in vivo. The proteins expression related to IRF8-IFN-γ signaling axis, including Ifit3, IRF1 and Ifit1 were downregulated by BBR intervention."

I was going to rotate S boulardii and and Berberine a month at a time, but I see they both hit Candida and Berberine is also good for autoimmune (which I have and PD may be) so I think I will take both at once.

Bolt,

I am currently testing Berberine in two friends with two different health issues. Interestingly Berberine is thought to have a bioavailability of just 1%, but it knows what to do in the gut microbiome. An increaser of SCFAs including butyrate and a microbiome modulator.

You mentioned Berberine a long time ago. I am late to the party.

Any idea if the Berberine will degrade the S boulardii? I see it does damage to Candida but have not seen that it hurts any probiotics.

Good news on the butyrate. Maybe I can drop sodium butyrate and replace with berberine?

Thanks for weighing in.

Berberine is going to have a much broader spectrum of health effects compared to SB. I have not seen any evidence to suggest it will negatively impact the SB. Seems like a parasite is going to require something specific to parasite eradication such as Ivermectin.

S boulardii is supposed to be effe tive in treating Blastocystis hominis. In a study, something like 20 of 20 people with Hashimotos had Blastocystis hominis and treating it lowered their IL17. They did not treat it with S boulardii.

Look into Ivermectin for that purpose.

Have you been tested for H Pylori? My GP was happy to do it when I explained - very simple test. Test came back negative so that's one thing I've taken off my list...

Sorry I’m late to this but did taking S. boulardii help with Blastocystis?

Apologies but I never knew if I had Blastocystis hominis in the first place and no idea if I had it after my run of taking S. boulardii. I was just taking a flyer on S. boulardii as it was cheap and there was a chance it would help.
