I had my PCP switch me to terazosin after I read the study. I was already diagnosed with Parkinsons, but figured it may help slow the progression.

I'm not receiving any medication yet. I am waiting to see the reaction of other people. If other people are having a good experience I may try using it.

I switched to taking Terazosin due to prostate issues and the other medication was not providing relief. I learned of it's possible benefits after it being prescribed.

My husband’s movement disorder specialist mentioned terazosin, but we couldn’t get his urologist (who hadn’t heard of it) to prescribe it. My husband’s been having a lot of orthostatic hypotension lately, so he was leary of prescribing anything for bph.

Unfortunately , he recommended a permanent indwelling catheter, which has made life pretty complicated.

Would love to hear if this med works for you as maybe we’ll eventually try it and see if we can ditch the catheter!

I definitely would ditch the catheter in favour of the Speedicath catheters which are easy to use and totally sterile. I used them up till I had the TURPS operation.

Hm…can a wife do this for a husband? His urologist didn’t think so. What do you think? And I just don’t know if he could do it himself at this stage, as he can’t keep track of time or operate the elevator in our building, for example.

A wife can definitely do this for a husband as they are very easy to insert and they are not painful at all for the patient/husband. You will find that it is very easy to slide into the urethra in the penis. It will not be at all painful for your husband. You have to be a little bit careful and wiggle it a little when you reach the prostate. You will know when this happens because you will feel a slight resistance at this point. The way to insert it is to slide it gently and slowly. When it reaches the prostate it will seem a little bit harder to push in. That is when you can twist a little bit or wiggle a little bit. As soon as you are through the prostate the resistance is gone and the urine will pour out and there's no stopping it until the bladder is empty.

I was born too soon. Just amazing advancement over a very few years. Any and all operations no matter how simple include risk , damage , pain and recovery and some have negative results aspects built in to the successful conclusion of the operation.

I wore a catheter and bag for one year waiting for the operation on the prostrate which did not work so another nine months waiting for the second operation. If I could do it now I would again try every med available and Speedicath for sure before I had an operation.

My friend has a spinal injury and he showed me how to use the catheters which he has to use every day as he has lost control of his bowels and legs. That at was before I was shown at the urology department at the hospital Speedicath catheters which are better than the ones that he uses.

My friend and fell out of the loft in his house and broke his back and that is why he is in a wheelchair now and he has to catheterise every day
