Hi,

I would like to know if somebody can help me with advice how to treat insomnia. Usually I fall asleep with melatonin or something else and in 2 in the morning I go to the bathroom and never can fall asleep again. I started to take trazodone already for 5 days. I am thinking to change to clonopin because trazodone dry my eyes out.

Thank you so much,

Luba

When you wake up in the night do you start to worry about things?

2 TBS fine ground pumpkin seeds scattered over food twiice a day or/and 15mls Pumpkin seed oil twice a day instant bye bye land and then...good morning. I wrestled with the sleep wake problem for YEARS until last month when a little fairy whispered in my ear. Now a solid 8 hour sleep is the norm..Glory BE! Buy the best cold pressed oil you can afford NOT shop bought not even if it says cold pressed it probably isn't

Where do you get your best cold pressed oil, or pumpkin seeds. My husband has trouble sleeping as well. He falls asleep initially but awakens 2, 3, or 4 and can't go back to sleep. What do others of you take at night to help with sleep?

amazon.com

Kiev Ukraine. It is pressed to order and costs 130 hr for 500 mls. IT IS MAGIC. cAN BE TAKEN AS IS OR PUT IN SMOOTHIES SALAD ETC......JUST NOT IN ANYTHING WARM OR HOT. 15 mls twice a day Add crushed fine pumpkin seeds scattered over food cottage cheese etc. D o not use roasted pumpkin seeds if you want the full nutritional value and definitely do not buy any shop bought p. seed il.Use about 2 tbs ground p. seeds over food.

PS Do not buy commercially produced pumpkin seed oil it is a waste of your precious money

I am so sorry I did not understand, if it waste of money to buy on amazon.com cold pressed organic oil, so I have to make it myself? you are saying that the same result I will have from raw pumkin seeds. Do I have to do it before

Don't be sorry, what for?!Commercially produced pumpkin seed oil is not your best option but I can point you to an absolutely wonderful company in AUSTRIA which produces the very very best pumpkinseed oil which is famous right around the world and they export everywhere. Offhand I cannot remember their name but all you need to do is put into your computer...Austrian Pumpkinseed oil and all should be revealed.

Amitriptyline (25mg) works for me every time and because I get a good night's sleep, feel that this is slowing down my progression quite well. Unsure if this drug has the same name in other parts of the world. It's one of the oldest anti-depressants and quite safe. I'm not depressed but boy does this make me sleep well!

I tried Amitriptyline a long time ago and my only object to it was the weight gain.

Remeron, an other antidepressant that helps with sleep worked for my husband for a long time but now not so well.

I built up a tolerance to the trazodone pretty rapidly. After the third up in dosage and still needing more I decided this was not for me. Plus it made me gain weight, and weight has been a constant battle in my life. I switched to OTC stuff instead. I use Benadryl if I have trouble getting to sleep and that has been working for me. I find that melatonin increases my depression so I stopped that one. Sometimes just taking some Ibuprofen to be more comfortable does the trick. Clonazepam (Klonopin) will definitely do the trick for me, but it's very strong stuff. I had taken some the first Christmas after I lost my son because I could not sleep and was having a lot of anxiety over the holidays. Well, long story short, I slept and slept and slept day and night. Even while exchanging presents I was asleep in the chair. At the time it was what I needed, but on a regular basis I will keep away from that stuff.

Hi Luba. Do you have Pd? If you do, then you will be among many who have this problem. I have found that no sleeping pills work after taking them for some time. I used to become quite stressed by not being able to get back to sleep, so I got up and did something like reading a dull but interesting book or worked on my computer. Then, when I started to feel tired again, I went back to bed and was able to sleep. That was so much better than lying in bed, unable to sleep and being anxious and stressed. Try it, it works.

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply so much!! I do have PD I was diagnosed a few years ago, but I am pretty shore I have PD for a long time. My problem is that I am working full time job in Accounting and if I do not sleep I got stress out and my symptoms get worse.

Try reading your accounting magazine. Mine sends me right off to sleep!

Joking aside a good idea is to write a list of what ever is going round and in your mind at 2am. It helps stop your mind from racing and might help.

Clonopam is not working well for my husband anymore but was wonderful for a long period.

my wife is the expert. She has insomnia whipped. Her insomnia is caused by advancing MS. Here is her list of must do's. Blackout the room, turn on a fan for a bit of steady whitenoise, wear ear plugs (with a little hydrocortisone if they cause discomfort), wear a very absorbent diaper so you do not need to get up to pee, don't eat anything close to bedtime, especially not things that might cause stomach acid, elevate the head of the bed (she has an adjustable bed), no alarms or cell phones in the room and most important make your snoring spouse sleep in another room and be QUIET! :)

5-HTP is a over the counter supplement that helps me a lot. 100 mg at bedtime helps me stay asleep.

I'm going to my neurologist today and this is one of the main things I want to ask him about.

I like John Peppers response. My problem is if I don't get seven or eight hours sleep I feel very sick the next day. Abdominal pain and borderline nauseated. I am retired now, as if a week and a half ago, so I wouldn't worry about the sleep if I didn't feel so awful.

I will let you all know if he has any new information.

The melatonin I got my husband at Costco that also has GABA in it has helped him sleep vs. just plain melatonin.

I have had great success with using tart cherry juice concentrate (diluted with water) for sleep. Drink it about 30 minutes before bed time. It is a natural source of tryptophan and melatonin. Works wonders.

Hi,

Thank you so much!! How much do you put tart cherry juice concentrate for cup of water?

thanks,

Blackfeather profile image
Blackfeather in reply toluba1

I like to drink tart cherry juice concentrate with about 2 or 2.5 table spoons to a glass of water. But you may want to experiment and see what works for you
