While surfing the internet looking for ways to manage my constipation I came across UFHealth regime for constipation management. It is called Gush, Push, Mush. Actually it is support for oncology patients. If it is safe for cancer patients I am sure it safe for Parkinson’s patients. Their website is UFHealth.org/pallativecare. I have been following their regime for 3 days and have been able to have daily bowel movements. The jest of the regime is most people need at least two bowel medicines an osmotic laxative and a stimulant for control (Mush and Push). It is important to take these medicines regularly. Hopefully this may others who have constipation.

In addition to PD, I also have a redundant, tortuous colon which adds to the BM issues. I am nearing 80, so the possibility of laxative dependency is not factored into the equation and, irrelevant. My protocol is as follows (developed over many years!):After supper: 400 mg Mag oxide
Before bedtime: Mag 07 (2-3 maintenance dose/ 2 times a week 5 capsules)
Ducolax suppository (Upon arising AM)
2 T ground flax
4 prunes, 2 figs
bowl of oatmeal
kiwis, Japanese sweet potatoes, berries
Miralax (which several doctors have recommended) constipates me!
Following this plan, I have a BM each morning and have not been constipated which has been a problem for my entire life.
I hope this helps others struggling with this debilitating condition.
Best wishes!
I don’t take any meds for constipation and make sure that I eat plenty of fresh fruits and
Vegetable a good diet Will eliminate the need for medicine
