I have been taking a while now 3mg of melatonin before going to bed. It has made a tremendous difference in the quality of my sleep. It was not evident right away it took a while. So, if you decide to take it don't give up on it.

It works for me too but i don't take it every day, just only when needed and just only 1/2 pill (sometimes it clouds my brain); gives extra 4 - 6 hrs sleep.

My neurologist recommended taking 3mg of melatonin before going to bed. Seems to work. I fall asleep easily.

It is my understanding that all commercially produced melatonin is deriived synthetically or comes from cow urine. The best natural source for melatonin is tart cherry juice. It also contains significant levels of tryptophan, which produces serotonin. Tart cherry juice concentrate is very effective for sleep. The best brand that I have found is made by Cherry Bay Orchard. Tart cherry extract in capsules also works great. I like solgar 1,000 mg. brand.

How much cherry juice will you drink prior to bedtime ?

Two table spoons of tart cherry juice concentrate mixed with 6 or 8 ounces of water, about 30 minutes before bed. You may find you need less. You may want to experiment some to see what best works for you.

I take 10 mg of Melatonin every night but it still takes me about 3 hours or more to get to sleep. I am a very light sleeper and many things wake me when I DO get to sleep.

I wake up in the middle of the night, because of pain on my left side and I can't get back to sleep.

Thank you for the information. I take this ocassionsally but never thought to take it on a regular bassi. I will begin immediately and hoping for great results.

Studies have shown that melatonin products have varying degrees of melatonin from what is listed on the label. In other words the listed amount may be 3mg. but may actually be 10mg. or 1mg. There is no way of knowing. More is not necessarily better. With natural melatonin found in tart cherry juice you won't know the amount of melatonin either, but I think you will find the amount that works best for you. Since tart cherry juice is a natural source for melatonin, it is vastly superior to the artificial stuff, in my opinion. Good luck!

Just a word of caution with melatonin. It can interfere with gut motility as it can cause too much seratonin in your gut. You could end up constipated (as my friend without Parkinson's did).
