Intermittent Fasting: ... - Cure Parkinson's
Intermittent Fasting
Excellent article, excellent TEDx talk. Another excellent one (documentary) which I watched last night is, "The Magic Pill" which I found on Netflix, but it may be in other places, too.
Started watching magic pill. Is there any info on pd in this documentary?
I don't think they refer to PD explicitly. It is about nutrition and the Ketogenic diet. It also talks about how the development of the food chain is for the benefit of the producers rather than those of us who eat, which along with the documentary "The Magic Pill" lays to rest the arguments about conspiracy in the food chain. The more I read, the more convinced I become that nutrition is our best option, so I'm interested in all this kind of stuff.
Watched the documentary. Amazing , especially the South African scientist , professor Tim Noakes story (A modern Galileo). It’s worth watching.
Thanks again
Kia and MBA,
I think intermittent fasting is potentially very good for health. I have a couple of queries, not necessarilly for you just a general comment or observation. I can see some problems or challenges for pwp.
I often feel nauseous and my stomach is settled with food. I would need to work out how to deal with that.
With advanced disease some people get very thin. It could be dangerous in that situation to fast.
What do you think?
If empty stomach causes nausea, seems like the only thing to be done is to graze, i.e., eat small amounts throughout the day. I don't know how you can do fasting in that situation.
I've always believed fasting is good for health, but I've heard from people on this forum being too thin is bad for PWP, although I haven't read anything/links about it yet. I fast 13 to 16 hours most days and 24 hours twice, sometimes more, a month. I've lost 25% of my body weight over the past 18 months or so, from 210 to 165. I'm 6'2" and look thin, i.e., my ribs show, but my BMI is 21, so I don't know if I've overdone it or not. I've always thought being somewhat on the thin side is healthier than being even at the official recommended weight. If anyone has any links about the weight issue for PWP, that would be appreciated.
Yes MBA in general i think under weight is better than over weight. I think It becomes an issue in pd when we dont get enough nutrients because we have trouble eating.
I think you might like this book – "The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss" by Jason Fung, Timothy Noakes. Its the smartest book on the subject of intermittent fasting.

Follow up from Bassofspades, here - I have been doing the keto /paleo diet with intermittent fasting for just 3 days and I feel more awesome today than I have in years!!! Maybe my 23 day cycle is on the upswing, if you believe in that stuff. Maybe it helps that I added a dose of Gabapentin at noon, too. But I lost 2 + pounds in 3 days and when I walked today I had no pain as I usually do. Im going to keep at it!
