I was actually thinking about a 21 day water fast

The main tendency for my PD is insufficient fluid to help counteract daily losses.

Without water, I fear the Spinal discs would not rejuvenate during rest and Constipation may also kick in, just to make matters even worse.

Water fasting sounds a pretty crazy foolish idea to me.

I'm glad you cleared that up, that water fasting is not limiting water but limiting food and drinking water.

Personally if you truly fast -- meaning no food at all --- for 21 days you probably will be close to death if not already gone. So I have to assume you eat some food. Perhaps liquid soup or something?

My personal opinion is that anything radical like this is dumb. If you need to be on a liquid diet and take nutritional drinks, that is a different story, other wise it is just plain dumb in my opinion.

Totally agree with you Theresa.

Solids moving through the gut serve a very good purpose. Cutting out the solids in the diet will (in my humble opinion) likely cause greater problems down the line.

You need to research Autophagy and watch the documentary “Fasting.” youtu.be/Hr1qPOSeyVg

Stress is bad for us. 21 days without food sounds pretty stressful.

Angie. Did a 10 dayer about 7 years ago but this was before I had PD. Sadly I like my food too much although I am doing the 'no breakfast' thing currently for 2days each week. But I hear you: fasting is the most effective route to neuro regeneration we know as it allows brain cells time to dump toxic waste and re-energise. And for you cynics out there, after 3days your hunger goes and the body starts to 'eat' itself. Give it long enough and it might just eat the critters that cause this disease. But it can't regenerate as long as one eats normally as it has no time for repair when it has to do its processing work such as digestion.

I've read really good reports about the positive effects of fasting on cell health. All the best, I'd love to hear how you go if you decide to go ahead.

Thanks for the great reply! I'm so motivated to try it out. The body does everything to heal itself. This is only possible when it doesn't have to worry about digesting food. With fasting the body can use all it's reserves for healing the body!

Now I'm facing my next questions...

Where is a good supervised fasting clinic in Australia?

you need some food for healing the body, I wouldn't do any more than 3 days

Are you planning to consult your doctor before trying this?

Sadly, doctors are taught little to nothing about nutrition, and nothing about the benefits of fasting. Unless they have a personal interest in such things and have researched the subject themselves, they'll probably only tell you its a bad idea.

I know someone who went on a 30-day water fast and swore by it for improving his gout and other conditions. I also know many people who have benefitted from a 3 to 30 day juice fast. (Not store bought juices which are heat treated destroying many nutrients, but fresh homemade juices, made mostly from fresh veggies like carrot, celery, cucumber, spinach and some fruit like apple, grape and pineapple.) Apparently the nutrients and water in fresh juice is absorbed into our bodies very easily and quickly so the body expends very little energy in digesting it.

When my dad was 93 he was dying from pneumonia in hospital. He hated the horrible dead hospital food and stopped eating. We were sure we'd said our last goodbyes one night, but he was still alive the next morning. I decided to test the benefits I'd been hearing about fresh juice and started bringing him a large thermos full of homemade mixed fresh fruit and vegetable juice each day, which he soon drank ... with joy! He said he could feel his energy rise almost immediately upon drinking it. His nurses made faces when they saw the juice because it was a muddy colour (from a mixture of greens and beetroot red) but it tasted mostly of fresh sweet pineapple. They kept moving the juice out of his reach, but one open-minded doctor told these nurses to make sure to give this juice to my dad, even though he had diarrhoea for a few days (detoxing). Within a week my dad was so well he was discharged from hospital. His one open minded doctor actually said the juice saved his life! My mother was so grateful, she bought a juicer and they both started making and drinking fresh fruit and vegetable juices every morning. I watched years come off them both as their eyes began to sparkle and their skin plumped up and turned a healthy colour. Mum is now 91 and Dad is 98, both still healthy, walking unaided and looking far younger than their years. We are all convinced that fresh fruits and vegetables are an important key to good health, and their juices are invaluable when your health needs a huge boost.

Personally, my husband and I started drinking fresh juice after this incident and felt and looked better for it. But now we drink homemade smoothies almost everyday - made from greens like kale, spinach or parsley and fruit like berries, apple, banana and mango. (Sometimes we add raw nuts, seeds or seed oil - like flax or hemp - herbs, raw ginger or turmeric.) Now we want the benefit of the fibre in smoothies, but when we're run down or sick, we revert to making fresh fruit and veg juices since they are easier to digest. We have much more energy when we get this daily dose of fresh nutrition.

I would love for us both to do a 3-day water fast to detox and rehydrate, followed by a 30-day juice fast to continue detoxing and rehydrating but also to rebuild from the clean nutrition of fresh, uncooked organic fruit and veg. But without my Parkie husband up for the challenge, we're unlikely to try it. It would take more will power than either of us have right now.

Its interesting that when the contestants of survivor first reach their camps they look one way, about the 3 weeks into it they are covered in insect bites and boils but those that make it to a point where they lose 10% of their body weight they look much healthier. With that being said 21 days without food, not without a million dollars on line.

Hi Angie, did you do the 21 day water fast and what were your results?

I have done water only fasts 5 times from 10-28 days. I went from constant illnesses of various types to complete health and have no limitations physically, work in heavy industry construction. Anyone who is afraid of not eating for a period of time is ignorant of how bodies work. See Dr Herbert Sheldon's books and get informed. I know personally one will not die or even feel ill from 28 days without food. I also was 6' tall and 175 when I started the fast thus you can see it wasn't just fat my body was burning, it was malfunctioning damaged cells which contributed to ill health.
