Can anyone tell me how long the bleeding from bottom without passing stools in the morning can last for in a flare-up. Been just passing blood without any stools every morning at least two times a day for last few days now since having metronidazole. Before the antibiotics I would pass blood with firm stools or diarrhoea but since taking antibiotics it's just blood alone.Anyone experienced this at all ?

I'm pretty sure this happened to me when I was first diagnosed with colitis, very much freaked me out. What did you doc say about it?

Thank you.My doctor has ran more stool samples and upon receiving the results said he shall at last refer me to gastro.

Which is what I really wanted a year ago so at least hopefully they will be able to help me much more.

I hope you are well and all the best to you.

Yes sounds like a good course of action. I hope you find a good gastro and get on the path to recovery soon.

Hi It can be so distressing when your bleeding and nothing happens with regards stools. I’ve been in a flare since December and have been bleeding a lot whilst going several times day. I started oral steroids 3 weeks ago and it’s finally slowed down . Had colonoscopy yesterday.

It’s important to get a blood test to make sure your iron is ok.Keep linked in with your GP.

I hope it settles soon.

Thank you so much for your response.I hope you are feeling better soon how was the colonoscopy as I am guessing I may end up down the same path soon but going to ask for a sigmoidoscopy first as am very scared about the colonoscopy. Did you have sedation?

I have had my bloods all done last year when it all began the first time before it settled down for 7 months this is my second flare up and bloods were all normal.

Please do keep us informed about how you get on and I wish you all the very best.

There's really nothing to fear from a colonoscopy, especially if you opt for sedation which is highly recommended. The only downside, in my opinion, is the prep on the previous day.

I was going to go into detail as to why I consider the prep to be the downside but decided it was tmi...and not a very pleasant tale!

If you have colitis the inflammation could be beyond your sigmoid so my advice is let the doctors decide.

Good luck 🙂

Hello again sooty I would just go for the colonoscopy, when I spoke to doc today she said I would be given something to relaxant sedative but not put to sleep, she said I won't even remember it,I never had that last time and I got through it ok the drink just makes you empty your system easier to drink with straw, no point in dragging it out with other exam do what the docs recommend, it does sound like you have colitis but as mentioned hemaroids can come from going too much and straining if it's bright red it's likely to be hemaroids does it kind of build up inside you usually over night then you go to loo and just blood, this has happend to me and did when I was diagnosed with colitis the darker the blood the higher up it is as old blood 🤗

I just edited my reply as you pressed like please read end again

The best thing we can do is try relax and take our mind off it I felt better for watching my fav show soap on TV but footballs on now 🙄so I'll try find something else to watch, I'm bit Hungry, I may have chamomile tea mixed with decaf tea bag and a soft white bread tuna sandwich well mashed with vegan mayo, I remember when I had colitis before I kept a food diary and noted the changes in how much blood and poop it got less and less until as mentioned it went I may have to go stricter again tho, I'll see how long it is to the colonoscopy, I hope you get some chamomile tea will help sleep and relax you😊

Yes definitely agree with that as stress does seem to be a major trigger issue I think too.I try to relax each evening with my favourite box sets before I nod off and it's just lovely isn't it to take your mind off all the daily struggles.

Nice warm bath and a wheat heat for comfort 🙂

I shall try camomile tea never had it before I remember last year trying green tea and peppermint tea was not a fan but I have read alot about the good benefits of camomile and especially for someone like myself as I also have terrible anxiety which is heighten by all this too 😔

Have a lovely rest of evening and good luck ahead with everything.

Thank you again for all your kind advice it really helps 🙂
