I had my ileostomy formed in 2011 and then 2015 had to had emergency surgery to repair the parastomal hernia I had as it strangled my bowel, I’ve recently been told I now have another parastomal hernia (Apr 2023), my question is I’ve been told by my surgical team until I have a reversal I’ll continuously get parastomal hernias has anyone else gone through similar?

Sorry to hear about your parastomal hernia, I had my stoma surgery back in April 2016 and not long after developed a parastomal hernia, my stoma nurse suggested that it was not unusual to get the hernia after stoma surgery. I was told that it could be fixed by moving to the oposite side but often I would be just as likely to get another hernia on the other side sometime. The advice was if it was not troubling me to leave well alone. I have been using a support belt ever since.
