Cloudy stool? Big discharges of mucous?

Hi there, my boyfriend was diagnosed with UC in 2011 and all the symptoms he always experienced were diarrhea, big loss of weight and going plenty of times to the toilet. But recently the flare ups are not like that anymore, now he suffers with constipation, big discharges of mucous on the toilet (the water becomes cloudy) and when cleaning, the toilet paper is completely white. We wonder if anyone here had the same symptoms, because we can't figure out if this is related with UC or IBS/SIBO. We are waiting for the results of a stool test, but I would like to have more information while waiting. Thanks!

I have had UC flares with constipation and hard stools, accompanied by much mucous. But also lots of blood. Suggest asking for a faecal calprotectin test.

Thank you Bresbo, for your reply! In the last flare ups, my boyfriend loss a lot of blood as well, but this time is just mucous. May I ask how long usually it takes your flares "to go away" ? Because with him it takes at least 2 to 3 months to get better. Thanks for your testimony!

I think everyone is different. And also finding the right medication makes a huge difference. Good luck.

Hi. I have had UC since 2006 and symptoms as you say. Those symptoms change when on drugs, does he take any meds. Reason being when in meds which work to stop the loose bowels and therefore frequent visit to the toilet you can become constipated instead. I would sometimes not go for 1vto 2 weeks and then when I did would sometimes struggle and sometimes not. I didn't suffer with bloating or pain so it didnt bother me, inthink it's about getting dosage right for each person in that case. As for mucosa or blood those two things are normally a sign of a flare up, or something different and should never be ignored. Just in case of cancer as symptoms are similar. Always best to be cautious if symptoms change. Hope thst helps
