Imodium should work as soon as you start taking them or at least help.Eating wise I go back to basics, everything white, eggs, plain biscuits, no fibre, fruit, spices, skins, nuts etc.

Try a low - residue diet which is pale/white foods such as chicken, white fish, rice, mash, eggs, white bread. Nothing with obvious fibre. Do take care with imodium! I was warned against using it on a regular basis as blocking yourself up when stuff needs to escape can cause problems. Hope things improve soon.

Thankyou I was wondering about the Imodium doctor told to use it but I will stop to day it making me so sleepy and I lost the will to eat so I am going to stop taking them , if it’s a flare up of UC they wouldn’t help anyway .

Yes, I would say you are in a flare up of your UC. You should have heard from the IBD nurses.. they will probably give you steroids of some sort or if you are on ASA's they will increase them. So... low residue diet is easy and lots of info online! Just eat fish or white meat such as chicken and nothing processed, white bread, white pasta, white rice, eggs are ok as is cheese, milk etc.. Some veg is ok (potatoes, carrots, courgettes) etc but peel skin off veg (such as potatoes) and cook veg well so no raw veg. Breakfast cereals such as Rice Krispies or corn flakes fine too. Basically, nothing that is 'high fibre' as this will make everything much worse. Bland is good for now at least! Hope you get some meds sorted though! x

They did get touch on Friday want me to do poo test first got to wait till I get the pots by post most likely on Monday she did say about putting me back steroids but poo test first, I am to phone next week if not getting any better , I have been on all the ASA s she was talking about putting me on something higher, but I will have go on steroids first till they sort something out bit worried. X

You will get sorted for sure, but in the meantime do try to stick to low residue foods. Do not worry - there are many meds as you probably know, so if you are finding ones are no longer effective, there will be something else. x

I also have UC. I tried Imodium / Loperamide in various forms but it actually makes me worse. 😵 Perhaps this is linked to the UC??To control my bowels I take Codeine for the side effect.

Diet wise I can only recommend rice, RICE and more RICE!!

Good luck

Yes, it's not good news 😥

I was diagnosed with UC nearly 20 years ago at the age of 60. Because of the state my colon was in the surgeon recommended I had a colectomy.

I have to say the stoma freed me up. I was no longer tied to being within reach of a toilet. So, I no longer have a colon and the codeine is the only medication I take for the UC.

Hopefully you have been diagnosed before your colon has reached this state.

Don't worry too much. It's not the end of the world. 😉😉

My son has inherited the UC. He has been on a number of different meds. I don't have his list at the moment but I can try to find out.

You were asking about my treatments for ulcerative colitis. They have been as follows:

Infliximab (one-off treatment by infusion) my initial treatment 10 years ago.

Vedolizumab (regular 6 or 8 wkly infusion) is what I’ve been on until recently.

Tofacitinib (Xeljanz – 5mg pills) is my new treatment, two pills a day, which seems to be effective.

Also Mesalazine (Mezavant – 1200mg pills) is a regular treatment that I have been taking throughout. Currently two pills a day with food.

Hope this is of interest
