Mercaptopurine for crohns.

I have had crohns for a a few years and have never achieved remission. Had various meds including 3 lots of steroids which have affected my bone density not in a good way. As a result I have just been prescribed the above. Side effects look a bit scary and weekly blood tests suggest potential kidney damage. Anyone had any experience with this drug. ?

My 16 y.o. was on it but for only a few months. It is considered a "chemotherapy" drug so be prepared to hear that. She had no issues, but wasn't on it long enough to really know. She didn't lose hair until after she stopped taking it and it just thinned her hair, but she has a thick head of hair to begin with. Good luck and be sure to stay in contact with your doctor about your blood test results.
