Hi

I had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago after getting more and more episodes of pain and diarrhoea, it showed I have diverticular disease on my right side. 8 biopsies were taken and the results when I rang up say no cancer but mild colitis. I’ve made a appointment to see my gp to talk about this but do I need to ask anything. I feel I should be referred to the gastro team. Any advice would be gratefully received.

They will know more once the biopsy results are in. Colitis means inflammation of colon, this may on surface which is seen on scope or involve tissues at a deeper level where the biopsies vome in. Crypts and granulomas are seen in IBD but not in normal inflammed bowel. Diverticulitis can cause inflammation but is not IBD. Gp may decide uo refer you whilst waiting on biopsy results as these can take a while to come back. In some areas its 8 weeks!
