Has anyone had treatment for a fissure? What treatment did you try and was it effective?

If you're talking about anal fissures then I have these too. The consultant I saw said they can operate but it carries the risk of making you incontinent! I don't want that at all. He treated me with "Rectogesic" which does the trick for me.

I have had numerous fissures, 2 needed surgical intervention, not pleasant but eventually closed, they did need to find out where the leakage was coming from, none were near the bladder. Needed antibiotics ( Metronidazole ) which always makes me feel slightly drunk, but was needed.

Thanks for letting me know. They’ve started me on clotrimazole 500mg antibiotics for two weeks. Then taking me to theatre to look under anaesthetic.

I have had small fissures around the anal area, these have compromised the muscle there. I had one drainage abscess + fissure from higher up the rectal colon, had to be surgically drained + pack dressed (sitting for a time was interesting). I then had a drainage abscess which went from an area of the lower bowel, through the inguinal canal and exited into my groin area and then opened, interesting surgery for that one.

I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles and surgeries. Did you have any schinteronomy or fissurectomy?

No idea what they were called, they just opened up the area at the skin surface, cleaned the area up to the start of the problem and then put in a pack dressing. This means that at a daily change the nurse pushes the tape in as far as it will go, they are trying to get the area to heal from the inside out, so cannot reassert itself. The groin one was less easy, they pack dressed to the groin area, but went in to discover where the leak was coming from. The small fissures in the anal ares. I treated myself, in the main, with medicated creams and warm salt water. My most active are of Crohn's at that time was the lower 8" of the colon + rectum, so knew they had not come that far.
