Hi, just joined, I don’t have crons, after sig and full colonoscopy I have been diagnosed with the above. Mainly bleeding when I go. I put up with the symptoms for a year as I also have piles, I put it down to that. Anyway after my colonoscopy my symptoms changed and worse, incontience of bloody mucus. My bottom does this crazy rumbling sound inside! I’m not sure what to do the colonoscopy was nearly two weeks ago now. Should I call the doctor who did it. Or is this just a symptom? Any experiences advice would be welcome thanks!
Chronic proctitis: Hi, just joined, I... - Crohn's and Colit...
Chronic proctitis
I have proctitis too. Mine was diagnosed through flexible sigmoidoscopy. The patient leaflet does say it can take a few days for bowel to return to normal. It may be after effects of the procedure though leaflet did say few things to report to Dr. What did your report say and are you on meds yet?
Hey, thanks for replying I had the sig a month ago they couldn’t work out where bleeding was coming from so said to do a colonoscopy. Sig showed proctitis and was given acsacol ( something like that)suppositories they instantly sorted the bleed issue. Stopped them just before colonoscopy. Started them again after and the symptoms just got worse. Thanks again for replying are you on meds? I struggle to find the difference between this and diseases like colitis?!
I’m on pentasa suppositories which also reduce bleeding and frequency. Now though I’m struggling with constipation and think that can be flip side. I do find it difficult that most of the info is about full blown Colitis or even Crohns as IBD. But then as much as I relate to ibs that info refers to those symptoms only.
During flare up I was prescribed rectal foam which was a steroid.
Yes that’s the ones! Oh I haven’t suffered with that flip side not been on them long enough I don’t think!
It sounds like you are having a flare up of your proctitis. Do you have a GI nurse or consultant you can speak to? If you are already on suppositories and they are not controlling your symptoms they would normally increase your medication to include steroid foam enemas. If these don't work you may need a course of oral steroids. Proctitis is the same as colitis just confined to the rectal area. It means your less likely to get any stomach pain that is sometimes associated with colitis but the other symptoms can be just as severe and can cause chronic tiredness and anaemia if left untreated so I would go back to your GI team and explain the symptoms. Hope things get better for you.
Hi liz, I’m so glad I found this site, thank you for the advice. I don’t have a team or anything yet as only just been diagnosed. I don’t understand how the foam enemas are meant to work I had them years ago and thought it just irritated it! Anyway I will call the endoscopy unit and see what they say! Thanks liz
