Drinking and running?!

... I make sure that I drink water before and after a run, but as the runs are beginning to get longer should you try and drink as you run? ...though I don't actually know if this is possible but mouth gets very dry when breathing.

...or is it best just to keep going to end of run?

Thanks

Hi

I always carry a drink with me when I run, I have a bottle with a Velcro strap that goes around my hand, so I don't even notice it. I have found that we are a mixed bunch on these forums, some swear by carrying it, others make do without. It's fairly easy to drink from whilst I run and, if I spill a little bit, all the better when I'm usually over warm anyway.

I think if you're looking to progress to 10k or further, at some point you'll need to carry water with you, especially when training (when there's no handy marshals to hand it out every mile or so), so I think it's easier to get used to it from the start.

Like I say, I know there are others that nt take it, so it's whatever you feel comfortable with, really.

I don't take anything with me, I haven't mastered the art of running and drinking, end up nearly choking so don't bother. Just finished my longest run ever 7 miles and was find without anything but maybe as the mileage increases I will have to practice running and swallowing again. Any tips anyone!!!

I haven't carried anything on runs up to 10 km. On longer runs-up to 16 km-I take a bottle in my belt bag, but to be honest only drunk some because I was carrying it; I didn't actually feel thirsty.

I don't take anything normally. I was okay when I did my 10k, but may have to think again as the weather gets warmer as I do get very, very hot even in these temperatures!
