Running and alcohol?

I had a lovely gentle run today - about 4 miles - and as I was trundling along, I indulged in a light post-lockdown fantasy (not a rudey-one though!). I imagined running along my favourite stretch of canal with my best mate, stopping at my fave canal-side pub for half a cider, then running back. Then it occurred to me that alcohol might dehydrate me enough for me to become light-headed, go careering into my bestie, push her into the drink and then watch as she was run down by a barge in a sort of slow-motion hit-and-run...there was even more to this day-dream, but you get the idea(!)

Then I decided to get a grip on myself. Half a cider wasn't going to impair me that much (as long as I was properly hydrated to begin with)...or would it?

So what's your experience? Have you run and imbibed? (And I'm talking about a little snifter here, not a full-on off-your-face binge-fest).

Can’t help on the effects of alcohol, but I can certainly say my run along my local the canal towpath will never be quite the same again 😂

My bestie IS on this forum, and she has told me her forum name, but being a loving and caring BF, I've forgotten it! :-O

I never drank and ran. I ran in the morning after a night of fun and felt rather worn out and l ran the marathon after a longish night and a few pints. Never again.

There is a marathon in France (maybe more than one) where they have wine stops en route.................sacre bleu!!!

Take some water with your wine (or cider) is probably the best advice I can give.

Alcohol is a potent diuretic and will likely lead to dehydration, although I don't have any stats on the injury risks for drunken runners.

Maybe you should join your local hashing group...........mine describe themselves as drinkers with a running problem.

Wow! I've just looked up 'hashing' on 'tinternet - intriguing! Can't find one near Dudley though... :-(

Yes hash hare is the way to go 😁 I've done it in Switzerland. I was only walking though, never running. Some super fit people in my group were drinking and running 😉 One of the loveliest bunch of people I've ever met.

You won’t find any now thepibs are closed 🤣🤣

There is a run around our local town where participants do a running pub crawl. Sounds like hell to me!

I hope it's mostly downhill, so they can roll from pub to pub *raises eyebrow*.
