So about those park runs...

Last night, a fortnight after graduation, I completed my first actual 5 km run. Since my current running speed is about 8.7 km per hour, I only cover about 4.35 km when Laura and I go out for our ongoing Week 9 runs. (Yes, I kept using the Week 9 podcast past graduation -- blame it on Julie!)

This is all well and good, especially since I have plans to start on the 5K+ podcasts next week, beginning with Stepping Stone and working my way up to Speed. So I have confidence that I will reach the assumed speed of 10 km per hour in the not-too-distant future. Meanwhile, I wanted to actually run 5K, so I plotted a course and ran it, going past the end of the podcast. Huzzah!

Now that I know I can actually run 5km, I would like to try out one of these park runs that everyone keeps going on about. Where are they? When are they? Who organizes them? How can I find out more? I live in Oxford, which is far from the middle of nowhere -- or even the edge of nowhere -- plus I own a car, so I am sure that there must be one nearby. All you folks in the proverbial know, can you tell me how I can learn more about these?

Thanks!

We have a parkrun! parkrun.org.uk/oxford/home

Shall we just do this next weekend? (Sorry I meant to reply to your message, been a bit all over the place!)

I know there are more Oxfordshire based folk out there! Anyone want to join?

We do? Awesome! I shouldn't be surprised, as Oxford has just about everything. Even so, I was unaware of it, so I am happy to see that it exists.

Have just replied to you privately, but the short answer is: YES, let's do it!

Echoing your question to others: Any other Oxonians care to join us? 5km at 09:00 on Sat 10-November. Anyone?
