Revelation - no headphones - world out there!

I had an amazing revelation when running yesterday - I graduated a few weeks ago and was losing my excitement a bit - kept reading these blogs and came across someone recommending book - Born to Run - Read it - got fired up and then ... okay I didn't go barefoot yet but I ran with no music - no podcast - just endomondo to tell me how far - and ran early in the morning - feeling all free - no pressure - can go at what speed i like - and wow ran down the lane and along the river bank and really felt so much more 'there' - heard the birds - and tractors - saw so much more - and loved loved it - smile and excitement back - wishing i could run everyday - and i have sent off for a pair of vivobarefoot shoes!

Thanks for your blog! I was sitting here earlier this morning thinking about going 'musicless' on Monday. Main reason being the forecast of heavy rain and the worry about my ipod and headphones getting drenched and, consequently, broken. I think I'll definitely give it a go now, although I'm not sure I'm ready for barefoot shoes yet!

Thanks again!

Would be very interested in how you get on with the barefoot shoes. I've read one or two pieces where experts claim that the best way is bare foot.

I'll let you know. I am currently very excited waiting their arrival! I tried running really barefoot and it felt so much easier - my gait definitely instantly improved - it also seems now that my foot - which is an amazing piece of engineering - is being stopped from what it is doing best when i put shoes on. But winter coming and dangers underfoot I don't feel okay running really barefoot all the time - so lets see!?

Ran the Parkrun this morning without headphones. Was a lovely calm crisp day and seemed a shame to exclude any of it.

Ahh i am still plucking up the courage to do a park run - but I have always thought I would do it without headphones anyway to kinda be more part of it.

just do it, you'll be fine. it's all about taking part so doesn't matter how fast or slow you are. :)
